Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Supervisor of Gifted and Talented Education Wendy King has been awarded the 2021 Leader of the Year Award by the Virginia Association for the Gifted.

This award recognizes those whose exemplary leadership and outstanding contribution to gifted education have affected Virginia’s children, teachers, schools, programs, services and policies.

King has served as LCPS’ gifted supervisor for six years. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Washington, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from George Mason University and a certification in educational leadership from Florida Atlantic University. Prior to joining LCPS, she was a middle school gifted science teacher for more than 10 years. She also served as the K-12 science manager in the Department of Curriculum for the School District of Palm Beach County, Florida, from 2007 to 2015.

King also has been appointed to serve on the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted (VACEG). She will serve a three-year term.

VACEG was formally established by the Virginia Board of Education to provide guidance to the board and the superintendent of public instruction about the educational needs of students identified as gifted.
