School Board Summary August 18

 

School Board members, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Superintendent Dr. Eric Williams and members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet participated in a virtual School Board meeting on Tuesday August 18, 2020. This was the continuation of a meeting recessed at 12:30 a.m. on August 12.

The School Board passed seven action items during this meeting: students with disabilities who receive instruction through the Aligned Standards of Learning (ASOL) and those who receive instruction in self-contained programs are to be included in Stage 1 of the implementation of the hybrid model; English Language Learners of Proficiency Level 1.0 – 1.9 are to be included in Stage 1 of the implementation of the hybrid model; preschool and pre-kindergarten programs are to be included in Stage 1 of the implementation of the hybrid model; staff will implement a program through which employees could request voluntary placement in Leave Without Pay status while the Phased Guidance for Virginia Schools is in effect; the Monroe Advanced Technology Academy hybrid learning will begin September 8 and hybrid learning for special education students will begin October 13; staff will make a recommendation on when to begin hybrid learning for English Language Learners and pre-school and pre-kindergarten students, with a start date no later than October 27, at the board’s September 8 meeting; and approval of a Fall 2020 School Board Meeting Calendar for an Elementary School Attendance Zone Change Process and Fiscal Year 2022 Capital Budgets.

 

The School Board heard two information items:

  • Superintendent Dr. Eric Williams, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services Dr. Asia Jones and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Talent Development Dr. Scott Ziegler presented an update on LCPS’ continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Assistant Superintendent for Digital Innovation Vince Scheivert presented an update on Access to Distance Learning for Students with No/Limited Internet Service.

The school board’s next meeting is scheduled for September 8th at 4 p.m.
