LCPS Status Update March 13, 2020
Dear LCPS Families and Staff:
Since our update yesterday, Governor Ralph Northam has ordered all K-12 schools in Virginia to close for a minimum of two weeks in response to the continued spread of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.
The closure period will be from Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27, at a minimum. Loudoun County Public Schools is in contact with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to determine the full scope of the effects of this announcement on LCPS’ operations. We will continue to provide additional information as the situation evolves.
Loudoun County also announced today a third presumptive positive case of COVID-19. At this time, there is no indication that the individual is connected to LCPS.
The following updates include information on food deliveries, Kindergarten registration, changes to event schedules, a new information “hotline,” a reminder about the use of LCPS facilities during the weekend, changes to the public meetings schedule at the LCPS Administrative Offices next week, and a replay of Superintendent’s Thursday press conference.
We will continue to provide more information as it becomes available and encourage you to refer to our Frequently Asked Questions webpage for the latest information.
Food Deliveries
Loudoun County School Nutrition Services (SNS) is expanding and extending free meal service in our school communities from March 16 to March 20 and March 23 to March 27 at schools and other designated locations.
As a reminder, school based meal service will be provided from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meals will be available at each school and students will be allowed to receive two meals daily (a breakfast and a lunch) and can choose to take both meals simultaneously. Students can receive the meals at the school of their choice, not just at the school they attend.
LCPS is also using our school bus fleet to increase the availability of meal service to students that rely on schools for meal support. Delivery of meals to locations such as community centers and churches throughout the county will begin Monday, March 16, 2020. LCPS will send an additional announcement this weekend with a link to maps indicating the locations and scheduled times of “meal stops.” Please arrive at the meal stops early to ensure buses can remain on schedule.
Kindergarten Registration Rescheduled
Kindergarten Registration has been rescheduled from Wednesday, March 18, to Wednesday, April 15. LCPS will maintain the current appointment time slots that were originally scheduled on Wednesday, March 18. If your original appointment was after March 18, please contact your school to confirm your new appointment time and date. Parents/guardians are asked to contact the school if they are unable to attend during their original appointment time, on the new date, April 15. If necessary, LCPS staff will work with parents/guardians to choose another available time slot and/or day. Parents/guardians will not lose their place on the school’s original appointment list if they have to reschedule due to this change. If you are planning to apply for special permission, please follow the special permission guidelines that can be found at this webpage. More information will be provided to kindergarten parents/guardians prior to April 15. If you have further questions, please contact your school directly.

LCPS will launch a COVID-19 telephone “hotline” at 1 p.m. Monday, March 16, to provide another option for information. The hotline number is 571-252-6499. Community members should feel free to call with any questions about the status of school operations, current schedules, and the latest information on other topics. Calls will be answered until 5 p.m. on Monday. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, the hotline will operate between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
