Please visit COVID-19 Preparedness at LCPS for the latest information. This story, which was published February 26, may contain dated information.

The safety and well-being of all students and staff members is Loudoun County Public Schools’ highest priority. We are monitoring the situation regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) very closely, and are in regular communication with the Loudoun County Health Department to be sure we have access to the latest information and recommendations from federal, state and local authorities.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 in Virginia.

Current guidance from the Loudoun County Health Department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that the hygiene practices recommended to combat the spread of influenza and other common seasonal illnesses – keeping sick children home (adults who are ill should stay home too), frequent handwashing, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth – are also appropriate for protecting against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. LCPS distributed these guidelines to parents and guardians in December, and they are available today on the LCPS Student Health Service’s webpage. The CDC has indicated that it is preparing additional guidelines for K-12 schools, and LCPS looks forward to receiving and applying the updated guidance when it is available.

Loudoun County Public Schools cleans schools and other facilities on a daily basis, including cleaning all “high touch” surfaces (doors, door knobs, desks, push plates) to maintain a clean, safe environment.

International Travel

LCPS has canceled all travel to or from countries which the Centers for Disease Control have labeled as Warning Level 3, Alert Level 2, Watch Level 1, and other destinations with risk of community spread.

LCPS does have several international trips planned to countries not on the CDC warning list between now and the end of the school year as well as the annual Loudoun International Youth Summit (LIYS) on March 20, 2020; however, LCPS is closely monitoring travel guidance from the CDC and is canceling other travel to and from LCPS as needed. The CDC provides up-to-date information at the following website, which we are monitoring closely:

We continue to monitor the CDC, US Department of State, and health warnings issued by the governments of other participating countries.  Decisions regarding the participation of countries impacted by the coronavirus and the program in general will be made on an on-going basis as new information becomes available.

We will continue to communicate with LCPS schools and families who are sponsoring international students for the LIYS and will honor households who may wish to opt out of hosting this year due to concerns regarding the Coronavirus.

We will continue to provide information to the LCPS community as additional guidance is shared by public health authorities. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control is providing regular updates on a variety of topics related to the COVID-19 virus, including international travel alerts and status updates about federal efforts.
