The Cloud Migration
Students, staff and parents increasingly rely on access to systems and data to meet instructional goals and ensure students have every opportunity to learn. To meet this need, the Department of Digital Innovation has implemented an initiative to reduce the reliance on on-premise technology and systems to ensure systems and applications are available with resiliency and to meet uptime expectations of our community and staff. The strategy includes leveraging modern cloud technologies to provide Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) to reduce reliance on on-premise data center. DDI is achieving this goal by by migrating systems and services to cloud providers including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google and utilizing a carrier neutral data center to house core infrastructure that can’t be placed in the cloud.
Cloud servers are also used to deliver Desktop as a Service (DaaS) and storage to LCPS students. These services allow students to access their data at any time, from anywhere, and enables the use of Windows OS based software on student 1:1 Chromebook devices. These software packages include geospatial mapping, computer science, design, and statistical software.
