Broad Run DECA Has Week of Giving

Broad Run DECA implemented “A Week of Giving and Community Service” from December 10th through the 14th.

DECA members got the entire school and community involved (DECA is an association of marketing students).

Following is a listing of the week’s events:

Monday, December 10th

  • More than 400 marketing students made a “promise” for the school’s Promise Tree to do something meaningful this winter season.

Tuesday, December 11th

  • Broad Run’s school store, The Spart Mart, hosted a “Holiday Day of Cheer” and encouraged customers to bring in donations for Toys for Tots. 123 toys were collected and donated to the Leesburg Toys for Tots.

Wednesday, December 12th

  • DECA students implemented a school-wide campaign for “because I said I would” and inspired Broad Run students to make promises for this winter season during their Spartan Seminar time (homerooms).
  • DECA also implemented a school-wide letter writing campaign for “Letters of Love.”  This is an online, letter-writing campaign that encourages people to write “Letters of Love” to children in the hospital with cancer.  For every 50 letters written, the organization makes a personalized book and donates it to children in the hospital.

Thursday, December 13th

  • Broad Run’s DECA Chapter and the Chick fil A Leader Academy took 50 students to the DC Armory, where they partnered with Operation Homefront. Students worked with Operation Homefront and donated more than 300 items for the DC Armory Food Pantry. Students also got an inspirational presentation from Command Sgt. Maj. Michael F. Brooks, Senior Enlisted Leader.
  • After their time at the DC Armory, the 50 students traveled to Fair Oaks Mall where they made 100 Build A Bears for INOVA Children’s Hospital. WRC-TV (Channel 4) joined the students at Build A Bear and Broad Run DECA was featured on the 6 p.m. news,

Friday, December 14th

  • DECA students dropped off, and donated, all 100 Bears to the INOVA Pediatric Oncology Center in Falls Church. These bears will be given out to the children receiving cancer treatments during the coming months.
