Last Week of September and Laps Pledges
Posted by PAUL PACK on 9/24/2018
Dear Liberty Families,
We are very proud to again support Ellie's Hats and raise awareness of childhood cancer next week, September 24th - 28th. We will be collecting new hats of all varieties for children in donation bins at the main entrances of the school. Next Friday, during our "Going Gold Day", Jay Coakley, local resident in South Riding and Founder of Ellie's Hats, will receive all of the hats donated from Liberty students and staff to provide to incredible children battling cancer.
Ellie’s Hats donates hats to children battling cancer and much more. In the spring of 2013 a little girl named Ellie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. By the time she started kindergarten in the fall, she had lost most of her hair and was wearing hats to school every day. Ellie’s Hats was born after one of her teachers noticed how much cheer and individuality the hats brought to Ellie. He wanted to share that feeling with other children who suffered from childhood cancer and to also raise awareness. Please watch this video here to see the impact Ellie's Hats is having on our community.
Next Friday, September 28th, we encourage all our students to wear gold as Liberty is "Going Gold" to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Please look this weekend to see if your student has a gold, or yellow, shirt to wear to school.
Thank you again for supporting our school, the Liberty PTA and our children by donating to Laps for Liberty. You can send your donation this week. If you missed out on pledging a donation, please know you can donate a flat amount to our PTA this week. Just write "Laps for Liberty" on the memo line of the check made out to Liberty PTA. You can also pledge by credit card by visiting our online donation page here. 100% proceeds from Laps for Liberty will help fund the full PTA budget, provide resources and assemblies for our STEMmerday, which is a free event for your family to attend, and purchase Chromebooks for our students to use for content creation, Google Classroom, coding and more!
Also, in building off of the excitement and physical fitness of Laps for Liberty with our students this week, we want to remind you that Mileage Club begins next week. All of the information is on the our website here and you can sign your child up directly here. Mileage Club is always free and sponsored by the Liberty PTA.
If you are considering referring your child for gifted services, join us to learn about elementary gifted education services available through Loudoun County Public Schools and the eligibility process for these services. Gifted Information Meetings are being held in September and all dates, times and locations can be viewed here. The same information will be presented at each of the meetings, so it is not necessary to attend more than one session. In case of cancellations due to inclement weather, check the gifted education webpage.
If your family is in need for any assistance that Liberty Elementary or Loudoun County Public Schools can provide, we would like you to know that we have a wonderful Parent Liaison, Nannette Azzouz, who is here to help. To learn more about her important role and Resource Assistance available, click here.
Finally, we want to remind everyone that only parents are allowed to bring medications to the Health Office. When doing so, parents must also complete an authorization for medication administration form and give to our school nurse, Mrs. Fay.
Have a great week.
