Srinivasan Wins First Prize in National Math Contest

Kirthana Srinivasan, a rising senior at Stone Bridge High School, won first prize in the 12
th Annual Shepherd Open Mathematics National Contest.

The Shepherd University Mathematics Department hopes to increase the public’s level of mathematical awareness by staging this competition. The Open’s problems test originality and mathematical ingenuity rather than quantity of knowledge.

Srinivasan won a prize of $250 for finishing first. She has appreciated the beauty of mathematics for as long as she can remember and dedicates several hours to study complex theorems in her free time.

Srinivasan’s Advanced Placement Calculus BC teacher, Ted Bjerke, approached her about entering this contest.
