LCPS Honored with School Nutrition Awards

Several Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) staff members were honored recently at the School Nutrition Association (SNA) of Virginia annual conference in Hampton.

Park View High School Principal Kirk Dolson was recognized with a “Friends of School Nutrition Association” Award.  Dolson was nominated for the award by LCPS School Nutrition Director Dr. Becky Domokos-Bays.  In her letter of nomination, Domokos-Bays commended Dolson for his leadership in establishing the “After School Fuel” program at Park View. This program provides both an evening meal and academic support to 10 to 15 percent of the school’s population on weekdays.  Dolson also has implemented changes regarding how breakfast is served at the school so that it reaches a wider clientele.  Additionally, he has fostered a number of community partnerships to start the “Park View Patch” – a school garden maintained by special education students.

LCPS School Nutrition Marketing Specialist Stefanie Dove received a $1,500 scholarship at the conference. Dove also has been recognized as Young Dietitian of the Year by the Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Frederick Douglass Elementary School Nutrition Manager Cathy Wilson received an award for her work in increasing physical activity among her students, while Creighton’s Corner Elementary’s Mayra Rosales received a marketing award for the special events and promotions in her cafeteria.

The School Nutrition Association of Loudoun County received the “Holy Cow” award and the “Cow of a Different Color” award.  These honors recognized increased membership percentages and numbers as the chapter was reinvigorated over the past year.
