PTA Meeting – General 9/12/08

Welcome – Lisa Morales introduction and PTA board introductions, Parent introductions
Principals Comments (Diana Insari): Parent Coffees – once a month on Friday afternoon (1-1:30) due to having a better time frame, asking for suggestions on topics (Next Friday 9/22 @ 1p.m.) will be on BYOT. Suggestions from the group were: Balance after school activities and school work, Enrichment opportunities, Homework helper for parents, Reading strategies, STEM introduction, Google introduction, School Applications, google classroom, epic. Parentvue introduction, application of curriculum in real life, Parent SOS resource, Current reading program, SOL testing, Kindergarten Preparation.
PTA President Comments:
Thank for all the volunteers that helped with all the help to get back to school and the first weeks off to a great start. PTA sign up – On-line is now the new requirement, National PTA is requiring all PTA is requiring it to be online. The BETA program is reflecting issues, links and getting receipts. They are working out the kinks and hope it doesn’t cause issues in low enrollment.
Spirit Night outcomes - Dairy Queen raised $250.00, Coal fire raised $ 225.00
Lisa Guerin, proposed budget, Motion to adopt – Jen Robinette, Michele Assetto seconded. None opposed. New Budget enter into, Motion to Adopt – Kerri Lewis, Michele Assetto second – none opposed. Budget is updated and reviewed monthly and posted to the website.
Suggestion for budget format – that the activity on the budget have it reflected the month it occurs in the description field.
VP of events Comments (Anne Corej):
Laps for Liberty 9/21, event is coming in this month. Our only main fundraiser of the school year. This is our 3rd annual event. This week the information packet will be sent home, include the pledge form for your children to get pledges. 100% of money raised stays in the school, Smart Lab and technology was able to provide the students.
Volunteer Coordinator Comments:
Volunteers to help School kits and first day packets - thank you!! Volunteers – always needed, and forging relationships between school and home. Laps for Liberty – Need a lot of help, 2 parent volunteers needed per classroom for pulling tally’s and getting the pledge form back the same day to go home. Need 90 people just to get Tally and pledge forms done. LAP markers are needed, total of 50 volunteers. If you are not on the list please email. Kick off will be on Thursday.
Corresponding Secretary Comments: Need Sponsorship information to send out certificates.
PTA Highlights – upcoming events:
Children’s Diversity Night – October, will be on a smaller scale this year, more information to come
VA 529 college savings plan - This is new, Oct 26th. More information to follow, this is a free event for all liberty parents.
American Education week – November more information to come
New Event – Student Dance - more information to come
Mileage club – spring and fall, 7:15 till 7:50
After School Enrichment - will be starting soon.
