Farm to School Week

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) will be observing Virginia Farm to School Week October 2nd through the 6th.

This observation coincides with National Farm to School Month and highlights the relationship that ensures fresh, local food is served in school cafeterias.

LCPS School Nutrition Services has created a number of partnerships with local farms.  Several local farms provide produce to LCPS.  On some occasions, this produce has been served on the same day that it is picked.  The most-awarded partnership has been the Farmer Trading Cards.  Local farmers are featured on these cards just like athletes. The farmers visit schools to sign their cards and teach students about the operation of their farms.

Across the state, schools will take part in “The Crunch Heard ’Round the Commonwealth.”  At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4th, students and staff across the state will simultaneously take a bite out of a Virginia apple.
