Regional Orchestra Audition Preparation Day

Woodgrove Orchestra Instructor Samantha Oakley has coordinated with Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) for Woodgrove High School to host a North Central Virginia Regional Orchestra Audition Preparation Day on Saturday, September 9th, for both Junior Regional and Senior Regional candidates to fine-tune every aspect of their audition experience.

 

Senior regional (Grades 9-12) candidates’ workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. with the following educators: Michelle Haines, violin; Bridget Olsen, viola; Camilo Perez-Mejia, cello; and Dr. Donovan Stokes, bass.  Junior regional (Grades 7-9) candidates’ workshop will take place from 1 until 5 p.m. with the following educators: Michelle Haines, violin; Bridget Olsen, viola; Camilo Perez-Mejia, cello; and Ethan Lawrence, bass.

 

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn what to expect when they arrive for audition;
  • Know when it is time to play for the judges;
  • Items that are permitted in the audition room;
  • What judges are doing behind the curtain;
  • Criteria judges use to grade students;
  • How to memorize scales;
  • How to make your excerpts stand out;
  • When to expect results;
  • Plus have time for Questions and Answers with educators.

 

Registration and Fees

Pre-registration: Fee of $20 can be submitted via Paypal on the website below with completion of the registration form by the deadline of Thursday, September 7th.

 

On-site registration: Fee of $35 day of the event. Payment may be made by check or by cash with exact amount, (we cannot provide change).

 

The Woodgrove Music & Arts Association will be selling concessions, beverages and slices of pizza during the event.  Please bring cash if you intend to purchase concessions items.
