Dear Liberty Families,

Next week, in celebration of the Washington Capitals reaching the Stanley Cup Finals, we will encourage all students and staff to wear red throughout the week and Capitals attire on Wednesday, which is when the team will play Game 2 later in the evening.  If your child would like to participate, please encourage him or her to do so next week during this exciting time for the DC area.

Three years ago, our Liberty community suffered the loss of our dear kindergarten teacher and friend, Rhonda Foley. Since Mrs. Foley's passing, staff and students dedicated efforts to raise awareness and money for cancer research with special events and our staff's Relay for Life Team.  In the spring of 2016, Liberty Elementary began awarding a high school senior the Rhonda Foley Scholarship in Mrs. Foley's honor.  This year, we are again proud to recognize a 2018 graduate of Freedom or John Champe High Schools, who attended Liberty Elementary will be awarded a $1000 scholarship in Mrs. Foley's name.  If your family would like to donate to the Rhonda Foley Scholarship Fund, please feel free to give an amount of your choice by sending a check payable to "Liberty Elementary School" with the memo "Rhonda Foley Scholarship."  You can call or email our bookkeeper, Dana Pastro, with any questions.  Please see the complete information and criteria about this special recognition below.

Rhonda Foley had a love of learning. She was a proud educator, mother, swim team supporter, and had a strong sense of faith and community. Mrs. Foley taught kindergarten at Liberty for six years. During her time at Liberty she had a positive impact on everyone she met; her students, their families and her coworkers. She was a friend to all and always put others first. Her students meant the world to her. She shared in their struggles and their successes. Her kindness and understanding for her students had a lasting impact on their lives. This scholarship is dedicated in her name by her loving husband, David, her son, John, and her coworkers at Liberty Elementary.

Finally, we are very proud to announce that last evening Stephanie Worthley, our amazing special education teacher and long-time friend of Rhonda Foley, and her husband and son, David and John, received the Shenandoah Teacher of the Year recognizing exceptional work in specialized areas of education.  We are very all very proud of Mrs. Worthley and the wonderful work she does for our students and community.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
