Practical Nursing II students have administered flu shots at Heritage Hall as their One to the World (OTTW) project. Heritage Hall is a nursing home, business partner with whom the school collaborates. Students identified decreasing flu in the elderly population as their authentic challenging problem in the world. Students explored infection control and influenza in the class utilizing infection control nurses and the Center for Disease Control website. The skill of administering flu shots was practiced in a skills lab. Medication understanding was obtained through reading the drug package insert. Students found the experience a great learning experience.
