Johnson Named Inspirational Theatre Educator of the Year
Peter Johnson, a career and technical education teacher at Rock Ridge High School, who also serves as the technical theatre director for Rock Ridge Performing Arts, has been named Inspirational Theatre Educator of the Year by the Educational Theatre Association.
Johnson will be honored at the National Theatre Education Conference, September 28-30, in St. Pete Beach, Florida.
Johnson teaches dual-enrollment Stagecraft; Advanced Drawing & Design; Engineering Drawing & Design; Manufacturing Systems II; Production Systems; and Technical Drawing & Design at Rock Ridge Before becoming a teacher, he ran a custom furniture and design business in Florida from 2006 until 2013. Johnson then began teaching technology, engineering and design in Orange County, Florida, before coming to Rock Ridge during the 2014-15 school year.
Johnson became the technical theatre director during the 2015-16 school year and has worked on more than 30 theatrical productions. “The most challenging thing we have built is a 38-foot-long, two-story pirate ship on wheels,” he said.
The Educational Theatre Association is the parent organization of the International Thespian Society, which has inducted more than 2.5 million thespians since 1929.
