Lightridge Has Classic Performance at VJCL
Lightridge High School participated in the Virginia Junior Classical League (VJCL) State Convention on Sunday, November 20, and Monday, November 21, at the Richmond Convention Center. Lightridge sent 19 students to participate in the event, which was very eventful for the Lightning:
-
Senior Chloe Schoenly finished her term as VJCL President at the Convention.
-
Lightridge’s delegation won third place in the spirit competition.
-
Students competed and achieved top-10 placements in many academic tests, including Roman Daily Life, Mythology, Quotes and Mottoes, Literature, History, Classical Art, and Geography
-
Students submitted art projects for judging and won multiple first-, second- and third-place awards for their submissions. Senior Monet Shum was awarded two overall awards; first, the Mary Julia Pomfrey Award for achieving the highest number of overall points across multiple graphic arts submissions and the Spirit of JCL Award, given to a student that exemplifies what it means to be a Latin student and active member of the Latin student community.
The two days were full of activities, learning opportunities, and even a bit of karaoke.
The Lightridge students were sponsored by Latin Teacher Steven Boscovitch.
