Principal of the Year

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023 Washington Post Principal of the Year award.

The Loudoun County nominee for this award also will become the 2023 Loudoun Principal of the Year.

Nominees must be full-time principals (in grades pre-kindergarten through 12). Each nominee must have a minimum of five years experience as a principal, three of which must be in Loudoun County Public Schools. Nominees must be serving as an administrator for the 2022-23 school year.

Nominees must be principals who:

  1. Leadership Excellence: Earns the respect of their staff and students, inspires excellence and creativity, and provides an innovative vision for the future of the school

  2. Collaboration: Establishes meaningful relationships throughout the educational system and community and fosters a collaborative school culture that emphasizes working together within the common framework of strong educational values.

  3. Listening: Maintains a continuous and open dialogue with students and parents as well as faculty and staff and considers a variety of feedback and ideas when making decisions.

  4. Lifelong Learning: Keeps abreast of developments in the field of education

  5. Support: Continues to play an active role in the classroom, the lunchroom, the hallway, at morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal. Creates an environment in which staff and students can flourish and grow.

  6. Foster Deeper Learning: Commit to fostering deeper learning through empowering all students to make meaningful contributions to the world.

As the nominator you must include with this form the following materials: 

  • A description of contributions made by the nominee in each of the listed nomination criteria. One page for each criterion, in 12 pt. font, (up to 400 words for each criterion)

  • A maximum of five statements of support (up to 400 words each), one of which must be from a professional educator.

  • A resume of the nominee: include work history, all degrees earned, and other honors received

  • A 200-word biography, written to highlight the specific award for which the awardee was nominated

Teacher of the Year

The Loudoun County nominee for this award also will become the 2023 Loudoun Teacher of the Year.

Nominees must be certified, full-time teachers (including itinerant and resource) in grades pre-kindergarten through 12 working for Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS). All nominees must have completed a minimum of five years of teaching experience, three of which must be in Loudoun County Public Schools at the time of nomination.

Nominees must be teachers who:

  1. Inspire Learning: Instill in students a desire to learn and achieve. 

  2. Encourage Individual Growth: Understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents and foster their self-esteem.

  3.  Demonstrate Subject Matter Expertise: Showcase a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students. 

  4. Foster Collaboration: Proactively facilitates cooperative relationships with their colleagues, students, and the community.

  5.  Lead by Example: Demonstrate Outstanding Leadership.

  6. Foster Deeper Learning: Commit to fostering deeper learning through empowering all students to make meaningful contributions to the world.
