Ramani Representing Northern Virginia at Youth Poet Event

Kashvi Ramani, a sophomore at Rock Ridge High School and the Academies of Loudoun, will be giving a reading of her original poetry on Sunday, June 12, at the American Poetry Museum in Washington, D.C.

Ramani is one of 24 young poets from throughout Virginia who have been selected by the Poetry Society of Virginia to take part in the Virginia Young Poets in the Community program. (She is designated as the Arlington Youth Poet Laureate.) The selected poets created public poetry projects showing what matters most to them and use poetry as a tool for social engagement.

Ramani's work centers on themes of social justice and advocacy. She writes from the perspective of a young Indian-American woman. She addresses fellow South Asians, women, those facing illness and teenagers. One goal of her work is to speak to these audiences and assure them they are not alone in their struggles.

The June 12 event features all of the DMV Youth Poet Laureates.
