Cabiniss Named Virginia Thespian Teacher of the Year

Nicki Cabiniss, the theatre teacher at John Champe High School, has been named the 2022 Virginia Thespian Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Cabiniss will be recognized at an awards ceremony to be held in conjunction with the Virginia Thespian Festival at Shenandoah University in Winchester on Sunday, January 16.

Ms. Cabiniss was nominated for the award by Rock Ridge High School theater teacher Tony Cimino-Johnson. Cimino-Johnson wrote the following about Cabiniss in his nomination:

“Even during the pandemic, Cab (as she’s known by her students) found opportunities for her students to engage in theatre in unparalleled ways. Producing seven shows in a year, where theatre was shut down, was nothing short of her amazing. Her commitment to her students, community, and colleagues is steadfast. She truly embodies what it means to be a teacher that changes and transforms lives. LCPS and Virginia is lucky to have Nicki a part of the theatre community.”
