Hunter Receives VATFACS Scholarship

 

The Virginia Association for Teachers of Family & Consumer Sciences (VATFACS) honored its award and scholarship recipients during its recent Professional Development Institute in McLean. Shannon Hunter, a family and consumer sciences teacher at Harper Park Middle School received the $1,000 Sharron K. Glasscock Scholarship to support her graduate studies in career and technical education at Virginia Tech.

 

Hunter is pursuing her master’s degree as a career-switcher.

VATFACS is an organization dedicated to promoting family and consumer sciences in Virginia public school. The primary areas of focus for family and consumer sciences include culinary arts, hospitality and tourism; education and training; food science and nutrition; health management and wellness; housing and interior design; human/child development and family relations; personal and family finance; and textiles, apparel, and retailing.
