Colleen O’Neill was named as the next principal of Sterling Middle School during the June 8 meeting of the Loudoun County School Board.
O’Neill’s appointment becomes effective July 1. She has served as the principal of Sully Elementary since 2012. O’Neill succeeds Herman Mizell, who is leaving Sterling Middle School for a position with Henrico County Public Schools.
O’Neill holds a bachelor’s degree in English from George Mason University; a master’s degree in education from Duquesne University; and an endorsement in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia. She has served as a third-, fourth- and fifth-grade teacher in Prince William County Public Schools; as a third grade teacher at Cedar Lane Elementary; as an administrative intern/third grade teacher at Belmont Station Elementary; as assistant principal at Forest Grove Elementary; as assistant principal at Evergreen Mill Elementary; and as principal of Sully Elementary School.
