Special Permission Application Window Opens April 1
The Special Permission window for students to attend a school outside of their attendance zone during the 2020-2021 academic year will open at 10:00 am. on April 1, 2020. The window will remain open from April 1 – June 30, 2020.
Per School Board Policy 8155, School Assignment, middle and high school students, special permission may be approved for multiple years until the student completes the highest-grade level at the school where special permission was granted; however, parents are required to renew annually if they wish to remain on special permission at the school. Renewal applications for middle and high school students should be submitted by April 30. Renewal applications received after April 30 will go through the regular special permission process.
To apply for special permission, parents or legal guardians, must have a current LCPS address on file. Families must provide transportation to and from school if approved to attend a school on special permission. Special Permission may also impact your child’s eligibility to participate in VHSL events. It is your responsibility to review and understand VHSL eligibility rules and regulations prior to submitting an application. With the exception of Kindergarten, a decision regarding special permission will be determined by LCPS within 30 days of submitting your application. Kindergarten special permission placement decisions will be determined by LCPS by August 1.
Please go to LCPS Special Permission website to apply for special permission or contact your school for a paper form.
