Trailside Earns Purple Star Designation


Trailside Middle School has been designated a 2019 Purple Star School by the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity of Military Children.


The Virginia Purple Star Designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Schools that earn the award receive a special Purple Star recognition to display onsite.


To qualify for a Purple Star, schools must have a staff member designated as the point of contact for military students and families. The point of contact serves as the primary link between the military family and the school. Schools must also demonstrate their commitment to meeting the needs of military students by providing resources and programming on issues important to military families, such as academic planning and transitions between schools, districts and states.


The Council applauds and appreciates schools that make an outstanding commitment to serving the needs of military students and families. These programs serve as inspiring models for other schools across the Commonwealth.


Trailside Middle School received positive feedback to the application they submitted for the recognition.  Evaluators wrote, “The reviewers wish to express their compliments on submitting a solid application. The ample evidence your school provided made it clear that the school is deserving of this year’s award.”


The award is valid for three years.
