Mrs. Alexander

Hello there and welcome to wonderful third grade! This is a time when children go from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," and are expected to become more responsible and organized. Our students expand their knowledge on story elements, writing details, multiplication, ancient cultures, and life cycles and processes, just to name a few topics we study. Third graders also learn to read and write cursive, which has been shown to improve fine-motor skills, self-discipline, neural connections, and writing speed.

Here is a little background on me: I grew up in South Jersey (Go Eagles!), but have also lived in England, France, the Florida Panhandle, and Princeton. I live with my husband and our daughter (12th grade) and son (11th grade), and our young cat. I stayed at home with my kids when they were little, but during that time I took on my own educational project: writing a history book on the Tudor dynasty of England, which was published a few years ago.

I'm happy to be an author, but even happier to be a teacher! Besides third grade (which is, of course, the best), I have taught kindergarten, seventh grade, and eighth grade. I hold a Master's degree in education from Trenton State College (now known as The College of New Jersey). Some other things I enjoy are: gardening, raising solitary bees, coffee, crochet, the beach, and anything Christmas. I also love "spooky" things such as the Harry Potter series, Halloween, and the Haunted Mansion ride at Walt Disney World.
Please feel free to e-mail me at any time. It's going to be a great year!
