Welcome to another fantastic year at Sugarland Elementary!  I am looking forward to working with you and your child and the fifth grade students!  My goal is to help develop your child into a life long, responsible learner.

I begin my 22nd year of teaching this year (I can’t even believe I am that old), last twelve years in 5th grade.  Before that, I taught ELL for grades 3 – 5, a 4/5 combo class, and 4th grade here at Sugarland.  Prior to my time here, I taught in grades 2 – 3 as a classroom teacher, in both North Carolina and Arizona before moving to Virginia.  My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education from Wingate University in North Carolina.  However, my love of learning extends beyond my teaching space and I acquired a Masters in Bilingual Multicultural Education with an emphasis in ESL through Northern Arizona University and a Masters in Administration from Shenandoah University.

My excitement for learning spills over into the activities I share with my students.  I incorporate life skills and social skills into all areas of my teaching, as I know I am helping to mold the next generation.  I expect each of my students to put forth his/her best effort and I am determined to figure out what motivates each one of them.  I stress organizational skills, responsibility, and self-advocacy, as I am not only teaching 5th grade content, but I am preparing my students for middle school and beyond.

My husband, Chris, and I spend our spare time with our fourth grader, Caleigh.  She truly amazes us each day, and we love watching her explore, participate in gymnastics, read, converse, and learn new things on a daily basis.  We spent the summer swimming, traveling, using the library, spending time with friends, and traveling even more while visiting family and friends all over the east coast.  I enjoy the outdoors, any type of exercise, watching football, laughing, scrapbooking, taking pictures, and leaving plenty of time to read great books!

I look forward to working with you and your child during this school year.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me via email - jennifer.warren@lcps.org, Class Dojo, or calling the school direcly if you have any questions at571 - 434 – 4460.

Here's to a fabulous year at Sugarland!
