Welcome to an exciting new school year at Kenneth W. Culbert Elementary School! I am looking forward to having your child in my class this year. I will do my best to ensure that your child has a positive and productive school year. The sooner that I get to know your child means that our year will be as productive as possible. So, I encourage you to share your insight about your child with me such as their likes, dislikes, fears and hopes for the coming year.

I’ve always loved school. I graduated from Kutztown University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. I began teaching in the Philadelphia School District in 1995.  We moved from Swarthmore, Pennsylvania to Leesburg, Virginia in the summer of 2001.  I worked at Forestville Elementary School in Fairfax County and then came to Loudoun County Public Schools.  I taught fifth grade at Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School for 10 years and 2 years at Frederick Douglas Elementary.  This will be my 7th year at KWC and I am so excited to be here!

I currently reside in Lovettsville. My husband, Ed, and I have three children, Brittany, Justin, and Brooke.  Brittany just graduated from West Virginia University, Justin is a senior at Penn State University and Brooke will be a 8th grader at Harmony Middle School this year.  Most of my time away from school is spent on soccer fields and visiting my children at each of their campuses! I am a Philadelphia Sports Fan and love all of the teams I grew up with. In addition, I am a big Penn State fan.  Also, my family and I spend a lot of time at the beach when we are off from sports!

Once again, know that I am so excited about our upcoming year together. My philosophy is to ignite a love of reading, inspire budding writers, motivate the mathematicians and scientists as well as create a united team atmosphere. I also strive to be flexible as well as a good communicator. Please don’t hesitate to contact me. Email is probably the quickest, but I have no problem speaking on the phone or in person.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child,

    Mrs. Wendy Nelson
