Welcome to an exciting new school year at Kenneth W. Culbert Elementary School! I am looking forward to having your child in my class this year. I will do my best to ensure that your child has a positive and productive school year. Please know that I will treat your child the way that I want teachers to treat my own children. The sooner that I get to know your child means that our year will be as productive as possible. So, I encourage you to share your insight about your child with me such as their likes, dislikes, fears and hopes for the coming year.

I’ve always loved school. I graduated from Kutztown University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and currently working on my Masters of Education at Widener University. I began teaching in the Philadelphia School District in 1995.  We moved from Swarthmore, Pennsylvania to Leesburg, Virginia in the summer of 2001.  I worked at Forestville Elementary School in Fairfax County and then came to Loudoun County Public Schools.  I taught fifth grade at Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School for 10 years and 2 years at Frederick Douglas Elementary.  This will be my 3rd year at KWC and I am so excited to be here!

I currently reside in Round Hill. My husband, Ed, and I have three children, Brittany, Justin, and Brooke.  Brittany attends West Virginia University, Justin attends Loudoun Valley HS and Brooke will be at Culbert this year..  Most of my time away from school is spent on soccer and baseball fields! I am a Philadelphia Sports Fan and love all of the teams I grew up with. In addition, I am a big Penn State fan.  Also, my family and I spend a lot of time at the beach when we are off from sports!

Once again, know that I am so excited about our upcoming year together. My philosophy is to ignite a love of reading, inspire budding writers, motivate the mathematicians and scientists as well as create a united team atmosphere. I also strive to be flexible as well as a good communicator. Please don’t hesitate to contact me. Email is probably the quickest, but I have no problem speaking on the phone or in person.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child,

    Mrs. Wendy Nelson
