Algonkian Elementary opened its doors in 1989. We are located in the Countryside community in Sterling, Virginia.
Approximately 475 students attend Algonkian between grades K-5.

At Algonkian, we are dedicated to providing our students with a safe and nurturing environment in which our students are excited about coming to school each day and encouraged to take risks. We recognize each child’s individual academic, social, and emotional needs. Programs have been implemented at Algonkian to differentiate instruction accordingly while at the same time providing appropriate interventions and accommodations to assist every child in being successful. Their success is our success! Our focus is always our students and every decision that is made is always based on what is in the best interest of the student.

The Algonkian staff is one of which to be extremely proud. Our staff is extremely dedicated and qualified. All of our students are treated with respect by their teachers and are encouraged to work to their full potential. We believe that communication between school and home is important and advantageous to a child’s success in school.

We have a very active and supportive PTA here at Algonkian. Our PTA plans exciting evening events that provide an opportunity for the community to gather with one another. Cultural Arts programs are provided and scheduled by the PTA that are instructional and correlate with our curriculum.  The parents of our students are always welcome and encouraged to volunteer in his/her child’s classroom. This participation is greatly appreciated and has a positive impact on our students.

With our exemplary staff, eager and ready to learn students, and supportive parents – We know that we will achieve success!  We are planning for a year of excellence!

    Sincerely,
    Brian Blubaugh, Principal
    Karen Shields, Assistant Principal
