Welcome Wolverine Parents, Students and Staff!
On behalf of the PTSO, I would like to personally welcome all new and returning families to Woodgrove High School. My name is Adrienne Lyne, and I am honored to be your PTSO President this year. This is my 7th year as a member of our amazing school and organization and I am extremely excited for another great year!
For those of you who are returning families, you may recall how I stepped out of my comfort zone and volunteered to be your PTSO President two years ago. Well, all I can say is that I am so happy that I accepted the personal challenge, and I am extremely excited to return as this year’s President. We had an amazing 2016-17 year, and I know this school year will be even better!
Last year, we were able to help so many teachers, students and families, thanks to YOUR support. For example, we were able to purchase books for classrooms so each student could have their own copy and not have to share; we were able to extend the Project Horse program for the Transition/Career Pathway class; we helped the newspaper staff cover printing and licensing fees so that our student newspaper could continue to be published; the science department was able to purchase a bulletin board so that science opportunities for students could be displayed. We also were able to send several students to various academic-based competitions, from local ones in VA to ones in TN and Iowa! In addition, the PTSO was able to support two inaugural initiatives – the We’re All Human walk and the Loudoun International Youth Summit, and we are excited to work with these groups again this year!
One of our biggest and most rewarding accomplishments is being able to provide scholarships to selected graduating seniors. Last year, we were able to award six scholarships to help offset the costs of higher education.
The WHS PTSO has many accomplishments, from the first staff welcome-back breakfast to the final Senior breakfast and the Senior Celebration that follows, we have worked both minor and major miracles behind the scenes, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of all our wonderful WHS community, teachers, students, and most of all – our parents.
In order to continue to do all that we do, we need YOU. The PTSO raises funds through membership dues, school reward programs, volunteer work, Kaplan ACT/SAT test registrations, and other fundraisers throughout the school year. The PTSO also provides volunteers for school-related activities and events.
We strive to keep parents informed of all school activities by publishing the Woodgrove Weekly e-Newsletter, and through our Facebook page and Twitter feed. Large or small, please know that everyone in the WHS community can make a difference in our school. We are looking forward to working with you, so please join us today...every minute and every person counts! And don’t forget to “like” our Facebook page!
