LCPS Annual Parent & Family Survey We need to hear from you!

Every year, LCPS families, teachers, and students in grades 3-12 take the LCPS Annual Stakeholder Surveys to share feedback about their schools. We use the results to assess the learning climate in our buildings and make plans for the following year. The Annual Parent and Family Survey is now open. We want to hear from everyone so that we can make the best decisions for ALL our students!

The parent/family survey will only take a few minutes of your time. To respond, go to https://www.lcps.org/Page/226918. You will be asked to fill out a survey for each grade level in which you have a child enrolled (elementary, middle, high, or program).

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us!

    Virginia School Climate Survey

This March 9-27 our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, is conducting a school climate and school safety survey of students and staff. The purpose of this survey is to measure school discipline, student support, student engagement, and safety conditions in each school. This information will be used to guide educational practices that produce a safe and orderly school environment.

The survey will be completed online using computers at school. The survey does not ask for your student’s name and all answers are anonymous (no one will know how your student answered the survey). Parents will not have access to their student’s survey answers. There is a copy of the survey available at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/school-climate/index.shtml for your review.

The survey will ask questions such as how students feel about their school, how students get along with one another and their teachers, how students feel about school rules, their perceptions of their teachers’ willingness to help them, and how they feel about attending school. They will also be asked what kinds of teasing and bullying they may have observed at school and whether they have been bullied themselves.

All students & staff at PFHS will be eligible to participate in the survey. The survey is voluntary and your student can decide not to participate. No action will be taken against you, your student, or the school if you do not participate. If you do not wish for your student to participate, please fill out the short form at http://bit.ly/2tGOLWa or send a letter to the main office by Friday, March 6.

Your student will not receive any immediate benefit from participating in the survey, but the survey will help us to maintain a safe, inviting, and supportive learning environment for your student.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important study of school climate.

    Looking for a summer job?

Now is the time. Various local companies in search of summer employees will be outside the cafeteria beginning this week, stop by during lunch to inquire.

RYAN ALAM’s VALENTINE’s RAFFLE WANTS TO SAY . . . THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
We want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU for the amazing support the community gave the Ryan Alam Valentine’s Day Raffle Fundraiser. Your generosity raised $4,525! That’s incredible, and we are so grateful! 100% of all of the money raised goes directly to Children’s National Help Cure NBIA-MPAN fund so they will research treatments and a cure.

RyaProgress so far n pulled all of the winners at the Sterling Snow Ball Dance at PFHS on Saturday, February 8, and we announced winners there. We have also called each of the winners who were not in attendance at the dance to arrange for delivery of prizes.

But Ryan’s disease has not stopped coming after him, so Ryan has not stopped fighting -- and that’s why we can’t stop fighting either! The Alam family still has to raise approximately $190,000 to fully fund Children’s National’s efforts to find treatments and a cure for Ryan and the many children and adults suffering from NBIA-MPAN. We have two requests for everyone inspired by Ryan’s amazing heart, grit, and desire to make the road easier for everyone else who gets this unfair and devastating disease:

    1. Please share Ryan’s story on social media! The more people hear this story, the more they want to help. The
MPAN fundraiser has received many donations from strangers who watched Ryan’s story on YouTube, heard it on WTOP, or saw it on Facebook. We would love for Ryan’s story to go viral!

Here are links to include when you ask friends to donate or find out about Ryan’s story:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=JZoqLe-MmRE
      https://childrensnational.org/curempan
      https://www.fox5dc.com/video/609731
      https://wtop.com/loudoun-county/2019/11/loudoun-co-teen-seeks-cure-for-genetic-disorder-he-shareswith-just-100-others/

    2. If you work in or know of an office that does activities during the year to support charities, please consider
nominating Ryan’s fund at Children’s National (https://childrensnational.org/curempan) or putting them in
touch with us (or us in touch with them!): ryanfightsmpan@gmail.com

For example, many offices request a $5 donation to wear jeans on Fridays OR have an office pool where half the money raised goes to a favorite charity and half to winner of the pool.

Every time Ryan’s story is shared and every dollar we raise is so important!!

Based on your support so far, Children's Healthcare has already begun the desperately needed research by sending
DNA to labs for special analysis and negotiating for the purchase of specialized, dedicated biomedical materials
needed to study exactly what is happening when cells are infected with NBIA-MPAN. They need more funding to
      continue their progress.

Have ways you want to help? Please let us know at ryanfightsmpan@gmail.com

Thank you again for your amazing support & please keep spreading the word and helping Ryan fight back against this relentless disease!!

    Message from the PTSO

Thank you to our PFalls parents for providing a festive Teacher Holiday Luncheon last week! We truly appreciate the effort poured out for others during this incredibly busy and full season leading into our Winter Break!!!

We do have another opportunity to support Ryan Alam in his courageous effort to find a cure for MPAN:

Ryan's Get Ready for Valentine's Day Raffle to Benefit Children's National Cure NBIA-MPAN Fund

Want to win one of many gift cards for a great night out to local restaurants, spa treatments, and other great gifts just in time for Valentine's Day? Are you a DC sports fan? You can win autographed photographs from Troy Brown Jr (Wizards 2018 first round draft pick and small forward), Emma Meeseman (Mystics WNBA Champions 2019 Finals MVP), and Evgeny Kuznetsov (Autographed Washington Capitals Center Stanley Cup Player Photo)! Or you could even win an autographed baseball from Stephen Strasburg (2019 World Series MVP, #1 draft pick 2009, and signed up to be a Nats pitcher for at least 7 more years -- woo hoo!!).

We already have more that $1500 worth of prizes to win, and more donations are rolling in. So, stay tuned for more details about this exciting raffle happening in January. Raffle tickets will start selling January 6 and continue through February 7. We'll be selling tickets at home PFHS basketball games in January, outside the cafeteria at lunches on Thursdays in January, and at different spots in the community.  So save some $$ from holiday shopping so you are ready to get your raffle tickets next month and win great prizes to help an awesome cause! Visit Ryan's Children's Medical fundraising page to find out more about the cause: https://childrensnational.org/curempan

We are here to help with these donation options for the 2019 Panther Food Drive:

    1. Bring a donation by cash, check, or store gift card to Judy Schmid or Helen Chang, PF Parent Liaisons. You can leave it in their mailbox in the main office.

    2. Donate through the Online Payment Portal

NOTE: If donating by gift card, please give a card for designated use at a grocery store rather than a Visa Gift Card. Cards from all local grocery stores are welcome.

Thank you for giving to those in our community who are in need.

    Flannel Collection

This is Lynne and Dani, we're doing a state project for FCCLA and we're looking for flannel donations of any size and color. The project is called packages of hope and we're turning the flannels into teddy bears, hand warmers, and safety blankets to give as a gift to the kids at the Loudoun County Abused Women's Shelter. If you'd like to donate any flannels, please give them to Ms. Walls' mailbox by December 18. The more flannels we receive the more gifts we can make for the kids.
    Thank you for your help,
    Lynne Tran and Danielle Kott

This is the last week to support PFHS Girl Scout Troop 840 as we participate in the Loudoun County Marine Corps League Detachment 1205 Toys for Tots campaign!! Toys for Tots only accepts new, unwrapped toys. Although they need toys for all ages, the "Newborn to 1-Year Old" and the "9 to Teenager" age groups are particularly needed. It is preferable to receive one or two toys rather than several small stocking stuffers.
A box will be located in the PFHS front lobby through December 6. Please see the attached flyer!
