    Parents/Guardians,

Even though we are in a virtual school environment, please email me your student's Allergy Action Plan, Asthma Action Plan, Seizure Emergency Action Plan, Authorization for Medication Administration and/or Diabetic Medical Management Plan as applicable.  We would like to be ready to pivot quickly to the hybrid model and provide for your student's medical needs.  Also, in a virtual environment we want your student's teacher to be aware of any health concerns.  My email address is Amy.Hisel@lcps.org PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF MEDICATIONS OR MEDICAL SUPPLIES AT THIS TIME.   Please note that if your student requires an inhaler during the school day, they will need a spacer available in school due to concerns related to COVID-19.

WINTER ATHLETICS Paperwork DUE December 2

Winter sports are almost here!  While tryouts begin for basketball December 7, followed by gymnastics, swim and wrestling on December 14, the registration/paperwork turn in deadline is set for December 2.

Because of Covid 19 protocols, there is a need to have firm tryout numbers well in advance for each sport.  This is why a hard deadline has been set for 4pm on December 2.  We absolutely cannot accept registrations after that time.  Be sure to register at www.potomacfallsathletics.org and turn doctor’s physical paperwork in to Mrs. Brown in the athletics department.

Contact her with questions at Susan.D.Brown@lcps.org

    PFHS Math Lab 2020-21

Math lab provides students the opportunity to receive assistance towards understanding the topics presented
in their math class. The lab gives students the chance to ask questions from their notes and then reinforces
their understanding of these topics by working on homework or assessment questions.

Students will dial into the meeting link posted in their Schoology class and work with the assigned teachers.
Students will complete the google form provided by the Math Lab teacher. Math Lab is open the following
    time:

    Blocks Time
    1/5 9:30 am– 10:30 am
    2/6 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
    3/7 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm
    4/8 2:45 pm – 3:45 pm

The intent of math lab is for all students in courses Algebra 2 and below to gain additional support outside of
classroom when they need help in math. Math Lab is NOT a tutoring session, nor should it be expected that
the student will have one on one support for the entire time. It is expected all students will bring their notes,
homework, and all other relevant support materials in order to work with the math lab teacher and patiently wait
for their turn. Sessions will be recorded.

    • Math Lab attendance will be subject to teacher discretion and space availability
    • ALL PFHS policies are expected to be followed

    Panthers Helping Panthers (video)

Last June, Potomac Falls High School asked for your support of our community’s families who faced significant needs due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The response from the Potomac Falls community was amazing and inspiring. Through your donations, the school provided assistance through the summer and early fall to our school’s students and families.

While our devoted and heroic school cafeteria workers continue to provide meals for Potomac Falls students and families, this assistance is not meant to provide full and complete nutritional needs.

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, many of our Potomac Falls students and families continue to live with food insecurity.

The time has come again for Potomac Falls High School to ask for your support.

With cash and check donations now not possible, we ask for your financial donation in $25 dollar increments to go toward the purchase of grocery store gift cards that will be distributed to our students and families in need.

To make a donation, please go to the PTSO’s Panthers Helping Panthers link on the Potomac Falls website.

    https://potomac-falls-ptso.square.site/product/panthers-helping-panthers/31?cs=true

We understand that not all are in a position to give, and ask that you donate what you can at this time.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and compassion.

Once a Panther always a Panther.

    Pet Rescue Fundraiser
PFHS Pet Rescue is having a fundraiser to help animal shelters in need of food during the pandemic. The online payment portal to donate is now open. All money will go towards feeding shelter animals at various animal services in our community.

    Good afternoon, Panther Community!

Right now, we are planning for hybrid students to return to the school building starting January 21. However, much may have changed since the spring when you last made a decision on whether your student wanted hybrid learning or 100% distance. Therefore, all parents will have to restate which they prefer in ParentVUE by November 20th.

Who needs to enter the choice of hybrid or 100% distance learning? All parents/guardians of LCPS students must complete the survey in ParentVUE. Here's how.

When is the survey due? The survey is currently open and must be completed by November 20 at 8pm.

Can I change my mind later? No. This will be a binding choice for the entire second semester of the 2020-2021 school year, from January 21 to June 15. Students whose families do not select an option by November 20th at 8 PM will be enrolled in Option 1 (hybrid). Note: transitioning to hybrid instruction is not guaranteed and is dependent on public health metrics and other data. The selection made for Semester 2 has no impact on the current Semester 1 learning option for your student.

Where can I get more information? LCPS has a website devoted to the transition to hybrid at ---. The 2nd Semester Guide may also be helpful.

If you have questions about what hybrid and distance learning will look like at Potomac Falls, we will be hosting a Town Hall on Monday from 5:00-6:00pm at http://lcps.org/pfhs/townhall2020. Because of the number of people who will be watching, we are collecting questions at https://forms.gle/gtadJQTCKN3K4MrDA. We will discuss the answers to those questions during the town hall as time permits. All the questions and answers will also be posted online afterward as a resource.

    Notes from the Principal

Good afternoon! We've now made it through the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year. It was a very different with COVID-19, but our teachers and students are doing their best to make it a great year.

Remember that the calendar has changed! Starting this week, Tuesdays and Thursdays are A days, while Wednesdays and Fridays are B days. That means that after having Monday & Tuesday off this week for the end of the quarter, you will return on Wednesday, November 4th for a B day. The full calendar is available here.

Need help in your classes? Please take advantage of Learning Lab! This is 22 minutes after every class where you have dedicated time to talk to your teacher about questions you have or what you can do to bring up your grade. Why email them later, or let your questions go unanswered, when you have a captive audience after every class? Please use Learning Lab time to work with your teachers.

Chromebook Update: Beginning October 30th, LCPS Chromebooks will prompt for a restart following an OS update. Students will receive a notification to restart and can defer the restart until a later time. After 48 hours, the Chromebook will automatically restart outside of school hours. This change will improve performance of devices that have recently taken an OS update and have not fully restarted. PK-2 Chromebooks will not be impacted by this change.

    Message from the PTSO

    Hello Panther Community,

This week marks the 5th week of distance learning. The members of our PTSO executive board, like you, have students of all different learning styles and ages trying to navigate their way in this new system. We thank our PFALLS teachers for working twice as hard to ensure that our students can access all that they need to learn in this environment!

We will have our second Virtual PTSO Meeting on Zoom on October 14th at 7PM.  We hope you can join us to connect with our PFHS Admin team, and to hear an informative talk about racial trauma from Monica Belton MSW, CTP-E.

This week, we want to highlight a special student at PFHS. Ryan Alam is a junior at PFalls who has attended LCPS with our students since elementary school.  Ryan is not only navigating the DL system with the rest of us... but he is fighting for a cure to MPAN. He is full of life and an inspiration to his fellow students. Please take a moment to hear this video from his parents, and consider lending support to this fundraiser. Time is getting short to help make a difference for this incredible young man!
     Ryan

    Visit his GoFundMe here:

Watch the attached video from his parents and consider helping one of our own Panthers make a life-saving difference!

    Sincerely,
    Your PFHS PTSO

    Parent Access to Schoology

Starting this year, all student classes in LCPS are hosted in Schoology. This program was chosen, in part, because it has built-in parent access. All student assignments can be found in Schoology. However, official grades are all posted in ParentVUE/StudentVUE.

    • Parents access Schoology via their ParentVUE account. Those unable to access ParentVUE should call Michelle Dillistin at 571/440-2530 ext. 60732

    • Parent info sheets are available in multiple languages:
    • Parents should access the “Schoology Parent Experience” to get the most of their Schoology account. Select the appropriate language below to learn how.

    BB Virtual Fun Run

The Virtual Fun Run is being hosted by the Backpack Buddies Foundation of Loudoun.  We are still accepting runners and walkers to help raise money to go right back to the schools and their Backpack Buddies programs for the 2020-2021 school year.  Already this year the Foundation has given out just under 125,000 in grants to the programs and businesses that help support your schools programs.  Without our usually Friendsgiving gala, we are looking at other avenues to have fun and raise money.  Sign up here!
