    Message from the PTSO
The PTSO Welcome Back Luncheon for our fabulous PFalls teachers and staff was a great start to the new year!  A huge THANK YOU to everyone who was able to come out to Fire Works Pizza for the first PTSO Restaurant Night of the year on the first day of school. We appreciate your support and loved the chance to see so many Panther families in the community. The team at Fire Works Pizza was great to work with and we want to encourage everyone to continue to visit and support Marc, a PFHS alum, who is running that location of Fire Works Pizza.

    Password Problems?

On Saturday, August 10th, Loudoun County Public Schools reset all student passwords to a new default. That default is based on the student's birthdate:

    LCPS-MMDDYY

So, if a student was born on January 12, 2004, their password would be

    LCPS-011204

Every student, after login, will be required to create a strong password. If you need information on what a strong password is, please click here for details.

    Go to LCPS GO

The user name will be your Student ID#

The password will be LCPS-MMDDYY (your 6 digit birthday)

    Click Sign in

For the Old Password enter: LCPS-MMDDYY (6 digit birthday)

For the new password you will create a new password that is 8 digits long.  It must include at least 1 upper case letter, 1 lower case letter, 1 number and 1 symbol. Do not use the old password from last year it will not work.

You will enter the new password twice then Submit.

  • Chromebooks for Students

Posted by Molly Rippa on 8/9/2019

    Good evening!

Our school is fortunate to be included in the next phase of a three-year initiative to provide individual learning devices to students in grades 3 through 12. This means that starting the 2019-20 school year, each of our students will be issued a Chromebook laptop for their use at school and at home. Parents and students interested in learning more about this initiative and how it will work at Potomac Falls are invited to our Chromebooks & Coffee event on August 15 at 7pm. (This meeting is informational, students will not receive the actual device this evening.)

We plan on distributing devices to freshmen during Freshmen Orientation on August 20th. Upperclassmen (10th-12th) are invited to our Chromebook Carryout from 10am-12noon on August 20th. Those who cannot make these events will receive their device during advisory on the first day of school (August 22). Once students receive their device, they will be expected to transport their device from school to home and bring it, fully charged and ready to use, to school with them each day.

Having access to a device to support their learning will help our students practice important success skills that will help them make meaningful contributions to the world. Students will have anytime, anywhere access to the tools, information, and resources that they need to support their learning.

All students and parents at schools that are issuing student devices will be prompted to acknowledge and accept a Student Device Use Agreement Form. The form will be distributed electronically through Phoenix on or about August 14th, 2019. This form reviews the important responsibilities that students are accepting when being issued a device. The agreement form needs to be electronically “acknowledged” by both the student and a parent or guardian within ten days of receiving the device. If the agreement form is not acknowledged within that time, students will be required to leave their device at school until the form is acknowledged.

Loudoun County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our students are safe when working online. To help protect our students from harmful or objectionable material, all internet traffic on student devices is filtered through our internet content filters. This filtering is in place regardless of whether students are using their device at home, at school, or on any other wireless network. As an extra layer of protection, LCPS is using a monitoring service to scan the contents of students’ email, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive for inappropriate or concerning content. If content is flagged, it is reviewed and addressed in a means consistent with the level of concern.

For more information about this initiative, please visit http://blogs.lcps.org/studenttech or attend our Chromebooks & Coffee event.

    Sincerely,

    Brandon Wolfe
    Principal
    Potomac Falls High School

    PFH Graduation 2019

The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2019 will be held at PFH on Monday, June 10th at 9am. Weather permitting, it will be outside in the stadium. Each graduate was given purple & white tickets for their families. Only those with tickets will be allowed entry. If you don't have enough tickets for your family, or you have those who shouldn't sit outside, you can watch LIVE from home at this website. Full details about graduation are here.

The weather for Monday looks like rain, so it is likely we'll have graduation inside. If so, the ceremony itself will be in the gym and only those with purple tickets (3 per grad) will be allowed in. Memories will be streaming the ceremony to a website (https://livestream.com/accounts/7787388/events/8671059). Anyone who can't be here in person will be able to watch the ceremony live from the website. We will also have our auditorium & several classrooms showing the live stream of the ceremony.

    AP Test Registration Change

The College Board has created an online AP test registration system that will go into effect for the 2019-2020 school year. As part of this change, the College Board has moved up the AP test registration deadline to November. The College Board’s research indicates that the earlier registration deadline improves student engagement throughout the year. The new registration system does not include a payment portal, so families will continue to use the LCPS payment portal or pay by check/cash at the high school.

Parents and guardians should note the LCPS registration deadline of November 1, versus the previous deadline of March 1. Payment for the test(s) will be collected at the time of registration, $40 of which is non-refundable. There is no change in the exam fee. We recognize that this change may require revised planning, so we wanted to inform you as soon as possible. Parents who wish to learn more about the College Board’s decision can view information here: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/pdf/ap-2019-students-parents-handout.pdf.

    Seniors: Don't lose your files!

The end of the year is approaching quickly! As you get ready to leave high school, think back to all the work you've done. When you leave in June, any files you leave on Google Drive, OneDrive or the school servers will be deleted. If you'd like to keep your projects & other files (which may be helpful as a portfolio), make sure to transfer them to a flash drive or a personal cloud account before the end of the year. If you've been keeping your files on your LCPS Google account, you can use Google Takeout. The link is in LCPS Go.

    Chromebooks are Coming!

This coming August all students at Potomac Falls will be receiving Chromebooks. Each student will be able to take their assigned device (with charger) home. They will be responsible for it until they return it at the end of the 2019-20 school year. More information will be coming soon, but for now, you can access the Device Handbook and resources for students and parents at http://blogs.lcps.org/studenttech/.

Freshmen will be able to pick up their device at Freshmen Orientation on Tuesday, August 20th. Upperclassmen are invited to the library on Tuesday, August 20th from 10am to 12noon to pick up theirs. Otherwise, students will receive their device during advisory the first day of school.

    Project Graduation (PG) Cancelled

Hello Panther Parents/Guardian, Students, Family, Friends, and Staff:

Project Graduation (The All-Night Grad Party) that was planned for Great Wolf Lodge has been canceled due to low participation sign-up. Please know you will be getting a portion of your registration fee returned. The other part went towards the yard sign.

For those that signed up to attend the Project Graduation Party, they will be getting a consolation gift. I wish your child/children the very best in their next chapter of life.

We do have yard signs available for sale for $20 if you would like to promote your senior on your lawn! They are available in the main office to purchase.
