    Good afternoon!

It's been a crazy few weeks, hasn't it? This coming week, though, is spring break. Take the time to relax with your family and be good to yourself. Some teachers may be providing optional lessons in Google Classroom if you want something to keep you busy and you can always find resources at the LCPS Continuity of Education site.

We are posting information on the headlines of our PFHS website to keep you up-to-date between weekly messages. For example, we have links to grading & quarter information, how to get tech support, and how to contact teachers. These links are being updated as we get more information. You should also check out Twitter announcements as well as paying attention to notices from Dr. Williams.

We hope that you will all stay safe and healthy.

    Regards,

    Dr. Brandon Wolfe

    Message from the PTSO

Please know that as fellow Panther parents we are here to support our students and teachers however we are able during this unprecedented COVID-19 shutdown. About one year ago, our PTSO was about to fold and our group of 8 moms pulled together with all of you to bring a fresh wave of school spirit into our PFHS school year with Contagious Enthusiasm! We had no idea how this year would turn out, but we are honored to continue to meet virtually as a board during this crisis and look for ways to keep us connected. Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook to get timely updates, and contact us anytime at our email: PFHS.ptso.president@gmail.com

That is a labor of LOVE!

    Good afternoon!

Tomorrow teachers will begin providing lessons for our students in Google Classroom. Teaching and learning entirely online is new, so there will be some transition as we all get accustomed to the new tools. This week, at least, will be a review of previously-covered material. It will not be graded, as LCPS is still working on getting devices and hotspots out to everyone so no one is disadvantaged. We will let you know when that changes.

LCPS has also provided resources to support all our families. It includes information about getting tech support as well as mental health resources.

We hope that you will all stay safe and healthy. Regards,

    Dr. Brandon Wolfe

Currently, no course scheduling information will be due on March 26 due to the closure of LCPS. Our timeline will be adjusted, and as soon as decisions are made, we will notify you as to the next steps in our course scheduling process. Thank you for your patience.

    Good afternoon!

I hope you are all being safe & healthy at this difficult time.

We ask that students please check their LCPS Gmail addresses. Our teachers are creating Google Classrooms to share information and resources, but there are no required assignments right now. If you are looking for something to do, LCPS has resources at the Continuity of Education in LCPS website.

On Monday, March 30th, teachers will begin posting assignments that review previously learned information. There are no grades attached (except for AP/DE classes), but these activities are productive activities for students to do to enhance their learning while they are out of school.

If you are in need of technical support while we are out, including information on requesting a hotspot, please visit our Tech Help site

As we wait for updates from LCPS and VDOE about the coming weeks, please take care of yourselves.

    Regards,

    Dr. Brandon Wolfe

Most scholarships in Naviance should be submitted online. However, some directions instructed students to turn their applications into the Counseling Office. At this juncture, we are awaiting direction with regard to submitting scholarship applications with upcoming due dates. We will notify you immediately once we have been informed.

    Virginia School Climate Survey

This March 9-27 our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, is conducting a school climate and school safety survey of students and staff. The purpose of this survey is to measure school discipline, student support, student engagement, and safety conditions in each school. This information will be used to guide educational practices that produce a safe and orderly school environment.

The survey will be completed online using computers at school. The survey does not ask for your student’s name and all answers are anonymous (no one will know how your student answered the survey). Parents will not have access to their student’s survey answers. There is a copy of the survey available at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/school-climate/index.shtml for your review.

The survey will ask questions such as how students feel about their school, how students get along with one another and their teachers, how students feel about school rules, their perceptions of their teachers’ willingness to help them, and how they feel about attending school. They will also be asked what kinds of teasing and bullying they may have observed at school and whether they have been bullied themselves.

All students & staff at PFHS will be eligible to participate in the survey. The survey is voluntary and your student can decide not to participate. No action will be taken against you, your student, or the school if you do not participate. If you do not wish for your student to participate, please fill out the short form at http://bit.ly/2tGOLWa or send a letter to the main office by Friday, March 6.

Your student will not receive any immediate benefit from participating in the survey, but the survey will help us to maintain a safe, inviting, and supportive learning environment for your student.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important study of school climate.

    Looking for a summer job?

Now is the time. Various local companies in search of summer employees will be outside the cafeteria beginning this week, stop by during lunch to inquire.

RYAN ALAM’s VALENTINE’s RAFFLE WANTS TO SAY . . . THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
We want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU for the amazing support the community gave the Ryan Alam Valentine’s Day Raffle Fundraiser. Your generosity raised $4,525! That’s incredible, and we are so grateful! 100% of all of the money raised goes directly to Children’s National Help Cure NBIA-MPAN fund so they will research treatments and a cure.

RyaProgress so far n pulled all of the winners at the Sterling Snow Ball Dance at PFHS on Saturday, February 8, and we announced winners there. We have also called each of the winners who were not in attendance at the dance to arrange for delivery of prizes.

But Ryan’s disease has not stopped coming after him, so Ryan has not stopped fighting -- and that’s why we can’t stop fighting either! The Alam family still has to raise approximately $190,000 to fully fund Children’s National’s efforts to find treatments and a cure for Ryan and the many children and adults suffering from NBIA-MPAN. We have two requests for everyone inspired by Ryan’s amazing heart, grit, and desire to make the road easier for everyone else who gets this unfair and devastating disease:

    1. Please share Ryan’s story on social media! The more people hear this story, the more they want to help. The
MPAN fundraiser has received many donations from strangers who watched Ryan’s story on YouTube, heard it on WTOP, or saw it on Facebook. We would love for Ryan’s story to go viral!

Here are links to include when you ask friends to donate or find out about Ryan’s story:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=JZoqLe-MmRE
      https://childrensnational.org/curempan
      https://www.fox5dc.com/video/609731
      https://wtop.com/loudoun-county/2019/11/loudoun-co-teen-seeks-cure-for-genetic-disorder-he-shareswith-just-100-others/

    2. If you work in or know of an office that does activities during the year to support charities, please consider
nominating Ryan’s fund at Children’s National (https://childrensnational.org/curempan) or putting them in
touch with us (or us in touch with them!): ryanfightsmpan@gmail.com

For example, many offices request a $5 donation to wear jeans on Fridays OR have an office pool where half the money raised goes to a favorite charity and half to winner of the pool.

Every time Ryan’s story is shared and every dollar we raise is so important!!

Based on your support so far, Children's Healthcare has already begun the desperately needed research by sending
DNA to labs for special analysis and negotiating for the purchase of specialized, dedicated biomedical materials
needed to study exactly what is happening when cells are infected with NBIA-MPAN. They need more funding to
      continue their progress.

Have ways you want to help? Please let us know at ryanfightsmpan@gmail.com

Thank you again for your amazing support & please keep spreading the word and helping Ryan fight back against this relentless disease!!
