    Dear Potomac Falls Families,

I wanted to thank all of you for your support and understanding as we have gone through quite a strange and difficult time. This is unprecedented but you have been patient, understanding and supportive and we genuinely appreciate that. I also want to congratulate all of our seniors on reaching graduation. Even though it is not what you expected or planned – we wish you the best in all of your future endeavors. And to all of our returning and new students and families. I wish you a safe and restful summer and look forward to greeting you all in the fall!

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Wolfe

    Senior Celebration

LCPS has partnered with Herff-Jones to produce our virtual celebration. They created this senior celebration from the photos and messages students uploaded. The link to view our virtual celebration is potomacfhs.stageclip.com. The video went live at 2:00 PM on June 9th, but you can still view it. Thank you for your continued dedication and patience on this important 2020 Celebration.

    In-Person Graduation 2020

Previously, you received notice from Dr. Williams that we now have clearance to hold face-to-face ceremonies per our Governor's Phase One Blueprint. Since then, we have been working diligently as a team to develop a plan that ensures safety for our staff and school community, is aligned with LCPS standards, and celebrates the students in the Class of 2020. I've outlined how the process will work here at PFHS below.

    • Ceremonies will take place on Monday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 24 in our temperature-controlled Auditorium.
    • Distancing guidelines will require that we do not have hand-to hand contact and safe measures will be in place for diploma distribution.
    • Students will be assigned a thirty-minute window (some time between 9 am and 4:30 pm) during which they will walk across the stage and receive their diploma.
    • Students will be permitted to have 5 family members attend with them (6 people total).
    • Students and their family members must arrive ten minutes prior to their 30-minute window and expect to wait up to 30 minutes to get across the stage and get their diploma.
    • Students will have their name called, turn their tassels, receive their diploma and have a picture on our main stage.
    • Professional photographers will be in attendance to take a formal stage photo for purchase.
    • If there are family conflicts with the week of June 22 and 24, we will work to host a make-up ceremony on July 1.

You will be provided maps, details and additional safety measures soon. If you choose to forgo the ceremony, you can schedule a time to pick up your diploma through your counselor.

Invitations including your assigned timeslot will be emailed directly to the student at their LCPS Gmail address. Please check your inboxes! As we know that not all of your friends and family will be able to attend, we will be streaming it live at https://live.myvrspot.com/st?cid=ZWFjZG

    Summer Assignments

It's very important - especially in these chaotic times - to refresh and expand what we learned over the summer. Several of our classes have posted summer assignments. You can access them from our Summer Assignment page.

Just a friendly reminder that all students will have a math summer assignment in preparation of their upcoming class in the fall.  Please refer to the PFHS summer assignment link to access the summer assignment.  The link has directions on how to download or print the assignment.

Congratulations to the 2020 PFHS Hall of Fame Award Winners

The recipient possesses academic strength, intellect, honor, dignity, generosity towards others, while always maintaining a positive attitude and an abundance of school spirit.

    Artist Guitar Ensemble Performance

The PFHS Guitar Department would like to share the Artist Guitar Ensemble's virtual ensemble performance of what would have been this year's senior song, "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.  Included is our traditional shout out to seniors who are recognized just before the performing of this selection in the concert.  It signifies both the close of one chapter of their lives, but also the beginning of the next chapter.  The students and Mr. Wells hope you enjoy!

    Message from the PTSO
Our PTSO wants to let you know that during the COVID-19 shutdown while our teachers maintain curriculum and attempt to capture the attention of our "virtual students", they have also been going above and beyond their job descriptions.  Not a week goes by without teachers and staff offering their time, resources, ideas, and sharing their concerns about how to care for our students. Although our teachers are missing the in-person time with our students, they are not missing a beat!  We get notes of appreciation daily with the sincerest sentiments, and we truly appreciate each of them.

We just want to say a resounding THANK YOU PFALLS faculty and staff!!!  There has never been a more rewarding time to be a PTSO volunteer in the PFHS Panther community.

    SENIOR PARENTS:
See the flyer below for a Loudoun Now graduation promotion that honors your senior and donates to our PTSO!

Driving is SUCH AN EXCITING time in a teenager’s life and the current pandemic is surely impacting this for many of our students. ☹

There are a lot of questions coming in about Behind the Wheel instruction, so here is the latest information we have.

The main piece of information involves Executive Order 7 from the Governor’s Office. This order specifically acknowledges private/commercial schools and has suspended Behind the Wheel for private/commercial companies until June 10th.

At this time, all BTW operations for LCPS are still suspended – in addition to no in-car instruction, this also includes no exchanging of paperwork i.e. DEC-8’s and TDL’s. Please know that we monitor and evaluate this decision regularly based on information from DOE, DMV, and the Governor’s Office as it’s made available. Notes from Counseling

Virtual Loudoun Summer Term 3: Registration closed May 15. Students who have registered and are approved for virtual courses will receive a welcome email from their instructor on the Friday before their virtual course opens, with directions detailing how to begin their classes on Monday, the first day of the virtual term. The courses begin on June 1 and end August 7.

School Counseling Lessons: The school counseling department continues to provide students with weekly lessons. Lessons average about 10 – 15 minutes with helpful tips, plans, and resources. • AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO SENIORS: please check your LCPS email several times a week until the end of the school year for valuable information required for graduation. LCPS requires every senior to provide post-secondary information prior to graduation, i.e., attending college, military, GAP year, employment, scholarships offered, etc.  Specific Senior Survey information and directions were emailed in an upcoming weekly Counseling Lesson. Please complete this information carefully in Naviance under the “About Me tab”,  go to “surveys not completed”, then “2020 Graduation Survey”. Through this survey completion, Seniors will indicate where they would like their final transcript sent. Incomplete information may result in transcripts not being sent. Every Senior MUST complete this survey.

    Good afternoon, Panther family!

Hopefully, you and your families are all doing well and feeling healthy.

First, our teachers would like to thank the PTSO and our community for all their support for Teacher Appreciation Week. We have an incredible staff and a wonderful community. Thank you!

AP testing starts up this week. This year's exams look so much different than they have in past years, which has made many people nervous. I know, though, that our students know the material and will do well. Best of luck to all of you!

Grades for third quarter have now been finalized and are available through ParentVUE/StudentVUE. If you have any general questions about grading, please visit the LCPS Continuity of Education website. If you have specific questions about the possibility of a grade bump due to exceptional work during fourth quarter, please contact the specific teacher.

We wish all of you a healthy week!

    Regards,

    Dr. Brandon Wolfe

    Notes from Counseling

Virtual Loudoun Summer Term Registration: Registration remains open and closes May 15. To register for the summer term, visit the registration page here https://www.lcps.org/domain/21529. Please be mindful of these deadlines. The courses begin on June 1 and end August 7.

School Counseling Lessons: The school counseling department continues to provide students with weekly lessons. Lessons average about 10 – 15 minutes with helpful tips, plans, and resources. There will be a quick survey assigned that we ask you to complete at the end of each presentation. You will find the weekly lesson in Google Classroom. You have been added to your grade level counseling google classroom. It is listed in your google classroom interface as PFH School Counseling – Your class & Graduation Year (ex. PFH School Counseling – Freshman Class of 2023). Lessons are uploaded on Thursdays each week, and you will be sent a quick email as a reminder. The school counseling department hopes you and your families are staying well and healthy!

Specific Senior Survey information and directions will be emailed in an upcoming weekly Counseling Lesson. Please complete this information carefully in Naviance under the “About Me tab”,  go to “surveys not completed”, then “2020 Graduation Survey”.

Every senior must complete the Senior survey.

    Behind the Wheel Notice

LCPS will resume paperwork distribution and in-car instruction when it is safe to do so.

    Good afternoon, Panther family!

Hopefully, you are all doing well and settling into a comforting routine at home.

Grades for 3rd quarter were finalized last week and report cards posted to ParentVUE/StudentVUE today.
Teachers are posting assignments in Google Classroom, which is the best place for students to go for information about what is going on. Many of our core classes are also using Edmentum. A tutorial is here and a general tip sheet is here. Teachers are also hosting live classes by this schedule. If you haven't yet, please use this form to let us know your preference on whether or not student's faces can be recorded. If you have any questions about procedures in class, please email your teacher.

National Teacher Appreciation Week is this week, May 4 – 8. With both students and teachers working hard from home, now's your chance to send a digital thank-you note to show your appreciation. Your favorite teacher could win a Virginia vacation and prizes for our school! Make your favorite teacher smile.

We wish you all the best in these difficult times and hope that you will all stay safe and healthy.

    Regards,

    Dr. Brandon Wolfe

    Congrats to Three Panther Guitarists
Please join me in congratulating three Panther guitarists that won distinction this past Sunday at the 2020 Marlow Guitar International Youth Competition.  This competition is one of the most rigorous middle and high school classical guitar competitions on the east coast and is open to students in the Washington DC and Baltimore region.  The competition was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and changed its format from a three day live event at Catholic University to a one week long, Youtube video submission format.  After all was said and done the prizes were...
Congrats to: Shreya Phadke, Anushka Phadke and Esteban Olivares
We are very proud of these three and their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the concert stage!  While this is a strange and challenging time for all, it helps to know that students are still working to create, to improve, to excel no matter what the obstacle.

All the best and stay safe!!

    Notes from the Library

The Potomac Falls librarians miss the entire Potomac Falls community; the students and staff who read the books in our collection, the staff who bring in their classes to use the library space, and the many other people who come and go through the library.  Although we miss our physical library environment, this is an excellent opportunity to remind everyone that the Potomac Falls Library is not only a physical space!  In fact, our virtual space is massive.  If you have never explored the LCPS online resource, with a little effort, you can expect to discover lots of terrific stuff that you will find useful for learning and pleasure.

To access Potomac Falls Library online resources, after you have signed into LCPS GO, click on Library Resources.  To find our eBooks, look at Follett Destiny Catalog.  You can check these books out to read on any device. To find all kinds of information for research, explore the other tabs:  ABC-CLIO, Britannica, CQ Researcher, EBSCO, Gale, Issues and Controversies, World Book Online and others.

Many students have books checked out for personal reading or for a class assignment.  We want those books back, but, unfortunately, we cannot accept them at this time.  Please keep them in a safe place until Potomac Falls unlocks the doors and you can bring them back.  There may not be an opportunity to return them until the beginning of the next school year…we don’t know!  So, please, just take good care of them for now.  Email us if we can help!

    Good afternoon!

How did your first full week of new lessons go? This week we will continue providing lessons on new material in all our classes. Students, please make sure you are checking your LCPS Gmail accounts for notices from your teachers and completing the assigned work.

We are posting information on the headlines of our PFHS website to keep you up-to-date between weekly messages. For example, we have links to grading & quarter information, a tutorial for Edmentumhow to get tech support, refunds, and how to contact teachers. These links are being updated as we get more information. You should also check out Twitter announcements as well as paying attention to notices from Dr. Williams.

Also, check out Wednesdays with Wolfe, where I post a weekly message to the community.

We hope that you will all stay safe and healthy.

    Regards,

    Dr. Brandon Wolfe

    • Virtual Loudoun Summer Term Registration: Registration opens on April 20 and closes May 15. To register for the summer term, visit the registration page here https://www.lcps.org/domain/21529. Please be mindful of these deadlines. The courses begin on June 1 and end Aug 7.

    • School Counseling Lessons: The school counseling department will be providing students with six lessons, over the next six weeks. The lessons are about 10-15 minutes with helpful tips, plans, and resources. There will be a quick survey assigned that we ask you to complete at the end of each presentation. You will find the weekly lesson in Google Classroom. You have been added to your grade level counseling google classroom. It is listed in your google classroom interface as PFH School Counseling – Your class & graduation year (ex. PFH School Counseling - Freshman Class of 2023). Lessons will be uploaded on Thursdays each week, and you will be sent a quick email as a reminder. The school counseling department hopes you and your families are staying well and healthy!

    Help Support School Supply Kits

To continue supporting the Continuity of Education in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) during COVID-19 closure, LCPS and the Loudoun Education Foundation (LEF) have partnered to mail school supply kits to LCPS students who may lack access to basic school supplies, to include all LCPS Title I elementary and middle school students. School supply kits have been customized to align to the specific needs of instructional learning guides/mailings.

During this time of uncertainty and fear, let’s make a collective effort to spread hope, help and strength!

    Google Meet & Live Classes

Our teachers are now providing up to 30 minutes of live teaching each week for each class. Students are not required to attend and should be aware that all sessions with students will be recorded.

     Permission to Record

Please remember the following regarding live instruction:

    • Teachers will send out announcements to their classes with the date/time they will be teaching live, up to 30 minutes a week. They will not be meeting every Mon/Wed/Fri!

    • Teachers will be recording whole-class synchronous (live) learning sessions.

    • Fill out this Permission Click form to provide or refuse consent to record your student.

    • If a school does not receive permission from a parent/guardian, the student may still participate with the camera off or a student can access the recording of that session.

    • The students are responsible for turning off their camera, as teachers are unable to manage participants’ video in Google Meet.

    • Unless otherwise needed, we recommend students turn their cameras off during synchronous sessions.

Teachers will be using the following schedule to minimize overlap. They will not meet every block, but will contact students to tell them when to go online.

Monday, Wednesday & Friday, follow this schedule:

    9:15 - 9:45 Block 1

    10:00 - 10:30 Block 2

    Good afternoon!

On Wednesday of last week, teachers started presenting new material. Students, please make sure you are checking your LCPS Gmail accounts for notices from your teachers and completing the assigned work.

Just a reminder that all student work - including retakes - for third quarter must be submitted to your teachers by this Friday, April 24. If you have any missing work, make sure to contact your teacher about how to complete it for credit.
