    Hello Mill Run families,

It’s been an excellent week, with two highlights of our 4th and 5th graders sharing excellent SCA speeches this morning and our full student body participating in a fun Superhero Sprint Pep Rally yesterday with special guests from Burn Boot Camp having our students up and moving!  Speaking of the Superhero Sprint, our students will be participating in our 2nd annual run on Thursday, October 17th - please see our Connect Ed message that was sent yesterday evening for specific details. The final schedule will be shared on Monday. Superhero Sprint forms are due on 10/17, but can be sent in at any time between now and then. We would like to thank you in advance for any donations that you may be able to share which will greatly benefit our instructional practices and school environment, as well as to support a former student in need.  Also, please be sure to mark your calendars for next week’s Spirit Days: Monday - Wear Blue Day (a change from the At-a-Glance), Tuesday - Wear White Day, Wednesday - Wear Red Day, Thursday - Jersey Day, & Friday - Wear Mill Run Spirit Wear Day.

We wanted to highlight a couple of additional items that you’ll want to make note of:

Book Character Parade:  Please see the flyer in yesterday’s Thursday folder which highlights our Book Character Parade, one of Mill Run’s many staple events.  We hope that you’ll be able to join.

Cafeteria Appreciation Week… We have the absolute best kitchen staff and host/esses at Mill Run, who absolutely love what they do and it shows in their everyday work.  We are so lucky to have them. Please encourage your children to thank our cafeteria staff next week.

4th and 5th Grade SCA final candidates.  The candidates per office who receive the top three votes will present their speeches on Thursday, October 10th via the Morning News show to our student body.  Following, all students will vote for our SCA President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Families of these students are invited to watch their children present at 7:50 on Thursday.

Author Kevin O’Malley visits on Wednesday, October 9th.  We’re excited to welcome this talented author to Mill Run!  Our students have been enjoying hearing stories that he has written, and we can’t wait for them to meet Mr. O’Malley in less than a week!

Veterans Day Forms… go home in Thursday folders.  Should this apply to your family (can be a grandparent or other family member, as well), please complete the forms and return them to Mill Run.  They will proudly be on display through our Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 11th at 8:30. All those who have or currently serve in the Armed Forces, along with their spouses, are welcome to attend.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Hello Mill Run families,

We’ve had a great week of learning and a wonderful picture day!  Your children always bring their smiles to school each day, with Tuesday being especially smiley.  We can’t wait to see their pictures in our yearbook this year! We have a busy week and month ahead, that we wanted to highlight with you.  You should have received the October At-a-Glance in yesterday’s Thursday folders, and also please click on this link to view the PTO October newsletter.

We wanted to highlight a couple of informational pieces that you’ll want to make note of, should these apply to your families next week:

After-School Activities (ASA)… begin next week, beginning on Monday.  We have the list of students and respective dates at school to share with your children whom are participating in ASA’s, but please also remind your children on the day of their After-School Activity.

4th and 5th Grade SCA Applications… are due on Monday and will be returned on Wednesday.  Candidates running for SCA office will present their speeches on Friday, with 5th grade beginning at 8:10 and 4th grade beginning at 9:30.  Families of students participating are welcome to attend at these respective grade level times.

Our Superhero Sprint… Pep Rally is right around the corner on Thursday, October 3rd, with special guests from Burn Boot Camp.  The Superhero Sprint is the sole PTO Fundraiser for the year running from 10/3 - 10/17, and we would be so grateful for your support and any donations that you would consider sharing.  100% of the proceeds come directly back to Mill Run to support the great educational experiences that your children receive, that also include technology, various resources used within the classroom, professional learning for our staff, and playground equipment to name a few.  More information will be sent home in next week’s Thursday folders.

And finally, you may notice over the next couple of weeks that there will be a temporary fence located on the basketball court side of our building.  There is some work being done at this time, but I also wanted to highlight that the recess area will continue to be used and the doors are accessible both for arrival and dismissal.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Picture Day and Student Council

Posted by John Cornely on 9/23/2019

    Hello Mill Run Families,

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24th, Mill Run will be holding its Picture Day!  Order forms were sent home recently, and if ordering pictures, the order forms will need to be returned so that your family can have a packet printed.  These are the pictures that will go into our yearbook. Extra picture order form copies are available in the front office, should you need another copy.  Our Fall Picture Make-up date is Wednesday, November 20th.  We can’t wait to see your children’s beautiful smiles for the camera!

4th & 5th Grade families:  Today, we met with all of our 4th and 5th graders to talk about our Student Council for this school year.   Our 5th graders are eligible to run for President or Treasurer and 4th graders are eligible to run for Vice President or Secretary.  We shared the application process with our students, which includes attaching a message (written in Google Docs) to their online application form.  Your children will be able to share this process with you, should they be interested in running for office. You can also help them with this process, and to do this, you’ll want to go to Mill Run’s home webpage > select Grade Level / Specialist Teams > select your child’s grade level > then scroll to the bottom of the page and locate where it says “<Grade level> S.C.A. Application - here is where your children are able to apply for the office in which they are interested in running for.  All applications are due by next Monday, September 30th and will be returned to your children by Wednesday, October 2nd. All children who are running for office will present their speeches on Friday, October 4th. 5th graders will present their speeches at 8:10 AM and 4th grades will present their speeches at 9:30 AM. All families whose children are running for office are invited to attend. The top three vote receivers for each office will continue on to present to our student body on Thursday, October 10th.

Hope you all had a great summer and are now getting back into the school routine. As you may already know, we are kicking off Math and Science Olympiad this year and have decided to form 1 team each for both. Mill Run has been very supportive and has offered to sponsor a team each.
