Ms. Debbie Pitts
Debbie Pitts is a learning specialist at Banneker. She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, and graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in special education. She then joined the Peace Corps and taught in Ecuador for two and a half years. Upon her return to the United States, she was employed as a bilingual special education teacher in the Washington, DC Public Schools for 10 years. During this time, she earned her Masters of Education in ESL from George Mason University. When their son, Jackson, was born in 1998 Ms. Pitts and her husband, Scot, moved to Philomont. Their daughter Caroline was born five years later. The family also includes two dogs, one cat, and several fish. Ms. Pitts has been a Banneker parent since 2003 and joined the staff as a teaching assistant in 2010 and a teacher in 2012. Ms. Pitts enjoyed her summer job coaching the Stoneleigh Stars swim team and is looking forward to an exciting new school year.
