• You are the Artist. This is your studio.

Welcome to another creative year in Art!  At Creighton's Corner we use Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) philosophy

This means that learning will be student driven as they discuss and discover:

    1. What do artists do?

    2. The child is an artist.

    3. The classroom is the child's studio.

Look at the LCPS Curriculum to see examples of what will be learned at each grade level. Younger students will have more direct lessons, learning centers, or procedure-based studio time.  Older students will have more open studio time to develop their own project ideas.  All students will have the experience of what it is like to be a true artist!

TIME:  All students attend Art class.  All grade levels will have Art once a week for 50 minutes.

GRADING: Yes, Art is a graded course! Every child is an artist, and not every artist is the same. Students will be graded by how they use their time, connections they make during discussions and reflections, and personal growth or expression in their final projects.

    1st-5th Grading Scale:

4- This student exceeds the expectations for their use of studio time, discussions/reflections, and final projects.

3- This student demonstrates a full understanding of the expectations for their use of studio time, discussions/reflections, and final projects.

2- This student demonstrates a partial understanding of the expectations for their use of studio time, discussions/reflections, and final projects.

1- This student is consistently performing below expectations for their use of studio time, discussions/reflections, and final projects.

Kindergarten Grading: Possible scores are 1 (B), 2 (P), or 3 (M).  Kindergartners are not graded during the first quarter.
