    Art Information

Welcome to another creative year in the art department.  As our school embraces project based learning and Leader in Me, we have a wonderful opportunity for our young artists to learn about art in a special way. We are using Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) which means learning will be student driven as they discuss and discover:

    1. What do artists do?

    2. The child is an artist.

    3. The classroom is the child's studio.

This will look different in each grade level.  Kindergarten will explore what it means to be an artist with rotating studio centers each class. For 1st through 5th grades approximately three studio centers will be introduced each nine weeks, and then they will get to choose one center in which they wish to further explore.   1st, 2nd, and 3rd will have more direct instruction in order to build their skill set and either theme-based or procedure-based studio center time, while 4th and 5th will develop their own project ideas.  All students will have the experience of what it is like to be a true artist!

All students in grades 1st-5th will have art class once a week for 50 minutes. Kindergarten will be have art class once a week for 30 minutes.
