    Other Information
Welcome, welcome, welcome to my site. I am happy to be starting my twenty-first year at Broad Run.   I have now been teaching for more than thirty years, but still get excited when it is time to start a new year.  In 2009 I was fortunate to complete National Board Certification and recertify in 2019; after all the work, it was nice to receive the honor of recognition and to know I had improved my teaching along the way.  Prior to my Broad Run experience, I taught in Maryland, New York, California, and Hawaii. Yes, I could keep a job in those days, however, my husband's job required us to move around quite a bit. We are now happily settled in Ashburn and planning to stay. I received my Bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University and my Master's in English from The State University of New York at Albany. My husband and I have two children, Sam and Claire.

On a personal note-- I have been moving along with a writing career for a number of years, publishing fiction, poetry, and non-fiction.  In June I received word that I had won the Acacia Gaia Contest for Fiction sponsored by Kallisto Gaia Press.  My book of fiction and flash fiction will be published in May of 2024.

This year I will be teaching 5 sections of the Dual Enrollment course that gives students six NOVA English credits.  I am looking forward to this schedule as it will bring exciting challenges and terrific kids to my room every day. My teaching style asks students to be active and engaged in class daily. It is my hope that all students will think, read, write, speak and listen every time they attend class.

I have been teaching teenagers for a long time and know how difficult it can be to help them manage their time and commitments when the school year gets underway. Please get in touch with me if you have any concerns. I will always return your e-mails or phone calls within twenty-four hours.

All course expectations and assignments will be posted in the new school information site, Schoology once we are up and running with that.  As I write this on August 21st, I am still in the process of building that content. If you have a question between now and August 28th, feel free to email.  After that, you can probably find what you need on the Schoology site.
