It was a privilege to join the learning community of Rosa Lee Carter as their SEARCH teacher in 2016, and I am looking forward to the upcoming school year! For over thirty-five years I have had the opportunity to serve as an educator in a variety of positions throughout the United States and abroad. Most recently I taught first grade at Loudoun County’s Tolbert Elementary for eight years, and prior to that I served as a classroom teacher at the pre-kindergarten through fifth grade levels, a counselor, and a resource teacher in the areas of reading, math, and gifted education. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and elementary education from Bethel University in Minnesota, a Master’s degree in counseling from Boston University, and an endorsement in gifted education from Shenandoah University. Aside from academics I especially enjoy traveling with my family, having visited over two dozen countries. It is my hope to draw on these experiences as I collaborate with classroom teachers to provide differentiated instruction that encourages students to embrace challenges, acquire the skills and strategies that promote higher level thinking and problem solving, and develop an enthusiasm for learning within the school setting and beyond! I value parents as partners in education and welcome their input. Please feel free to contact me by email at karla.paulson@lcps.org. I appreciate your interest and support!
