Briar Woods Theatre!Hello and welcome to my website! This is Dr. Willmot and I am anxious but excited to return to the unprecedented and historic 2020-2021 school year. This will be my sixth year at Briar Woods, and starting my twentieth year as a Theatre Director and Instructor in Loudoun County Public Schools. I look forward to a year of theatre full of wonder and excellence at Briar Woods High School! This fall Briar Woods Theatre is optimistically taking our cues from Broadway. We are hoping to be an up-and-running, functional, ticket-taking facility just as soon as Virginia and Loudoun County authorities deem it possible to do so. The following is from the New York Times, published June 29th, 2020 and may offer some perspective on the matter.Broadway will remain closed for at least the rest of this year, and many shows are signaling that they do not expect a return to the stage until late winter or early spring.
The Broadway League said Monday that theater owners and producers will refund or exchange tickets previously purchased for shows through Jan. 3. Given the unpredictability of the coronavirus pandemic that has prompted the shuttering of Broadway, the League said it was not yet ready to specify exactly when shows will reopen.
“Returning productions are currently projected to resume performances over a series of rolling dates in early 2021,” the League said in a statement. Among the logistical issues industry leaders are discussing with government and medical officials: “screening and testing, cleaning and sanitizing, wayfinding inside theaters, backstage protocols and much more.”
“I’m cautiously optimistic, with the latest information that we’re getting from scientists and medical professionals, that we’re getting close to some protocols that would work in New York and on the road,” Charlotte St. Martin, the League’s president, said in an interview. “As long as they hold up, I do think that after the first of the year, a rolling rollout of shows reopening is possible.”
As we embark on a new and uncertain year of theatre, I wish to thank you all in advance for being true to BWHS Theatre. As always, productions are dedicated to all the students, faculty, staff, and families of BWHS who support and believe in the power of the Arts! Our first proposed performance slot has been set in early November and was chosen and designed to showcase the fall play. However, at this conjunture it seems rather unlikely that as a community we will be medically cleared and granted the approval for in-person, live audience/actor interaction in the auditorium. On a positive note, the proposed performance slot for the winter musical has been set for the end of February, and we will keep our fingers crossed for that date with a audience although there are no promises. Lastly, the Senior-Directed Student One Act Festival is slated for late-April, and we will again have our fingers crossed for that date. At the end of the year in May, we are planning to have a collaborative Theatre, Choral, Tech Theatre venture, but as stated above that all these dates are contingent on what/how/and when the state and county declares theatre (and other events) to resume. We are, and will continue to be, exploring virtual venues to showcase student work as we collaborate and work with colleagues, publishing and liscensing houses, and local authorities to derive, discover, and deliver alternate "performance" events!Having said that, let me tell you a little bit about myself.Education:- Bachelors degree, General Arts and Sciences from Penn State University
