    Dear Sanders Corner family,

This school year marks my 24th year of teaching music. Amazing! I grew up in the Seattle area, went to the University of Puget Sound, and started my career in Washington State. Then I spent 4 years teaching at the Shanghai American School in China. I returned to the US and moved to this area to be near family. I am married to Kevin Briscoe, who teaches Social Studies at Rock Ridge HS. Our son is starting his sophomore year at SBHS. He is a "Marching Bulldog" - playing bass clarinet in the SBHS marching band. Our daughter is in 8th grade at Trailside MS and plays the cello. She also plays softball and basketball! Both kids spent the summer swimming with our Ashburn Farm team - Go Barracudas!

Teaching Music is the best job! I believe that music is an important component of a great education. Music class gives students an opportunity to develop their musical skills and knowledge, as well as offering them a creative and expressive outlet to help them develop as collaborators, communicators, and critical thinkers. Please ask your children what they are learning about in Music, and encourage them to share their favorite songs or activities with you. It is my hope that they will love music and grow as musicians this year!

    Sincerely,

    Alison Briscoe
