Welcome to Our Class

  • Dear Rising Fourth-Grader,

I am really excited about starting my 30th year of teaching this August. This new year of school promises to be both exciting and rewarding. The day will be structured to maximize learning with breaks and fun included! We will be having number talks, measurement days, data sessions, coding activities, reading groups, writing workshops, and a variety of science experiments. This all may sound a little intimidating, but we will take our time and learn from each other so that we can have a successful year filled with achievement and fun.

Supply lists are available on the school website. The fourth-grade team does have a few requests, however. Please DO NOT send in binders, pencil boxes, glittery notebooks, personal pencil sharpeners, or fidget spinners/erasers/toys. There is not a lot of room for these items in the desks. Optionally, students may bring in a SMALL pencil bag to hold any special pencils or erasers.

The 4th-grade curriculum is fairly rigorous. Please continue to work on math facts and reading over the break to avoid the summer slide. Over the summer, students may have access to IXL and Dreambox for extra practice. Students can also practice using sites such as aaamath.com and Prodigy Math. Students are also encouraged to read regularly, preferably for about 20 minutes a day. I look forward to hearing what books you've read.

I already have a lot of fun and interesting activities planned for the school year and am very excited about meeting everyone in August. Have a great summer!

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Lawson
