Mrs. Usiskin was born in Poland, where she spent most of her life. She got her BA in German and English and her M.A in Linguistics from the University of Poznan (Poland). She taught German to international students in programs sponsored by the European Union. She also tutored English and German to Polish students in Poland. She worked as a translator during International Trade Fairs, Opera houses, and international companies.
Her love of languages and travel brought her to America where she met her husband. She has been in the United States for almost fifteen years and at BRHS for fourteen. She enjoys teaching EL and having such an international crowd around her. This will be her 6th year serving as departament chair for the ELL dept.and 16th year at Broad Run teaching international students.
She is looking to another great year at BRHS!!
This year she will be teaching the following classes: , Literacy 2, English as World Language, and will have an EL driven study hall.I am also co-teaching US/VA history.

In her free time she hikes, exercises, cooks healthy meals, teaches Yoga, cycles, and takes care of her girls (Maya 13 and Bianca 11) and husband Terry. She lives in Brambleton.
