M.S., CCC-SLP Speech Language Pathologist

Mrs. Griffis

Welcome to a new school year! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer, and I look forward to jumping into another year!

My name is Amy Griffis (formerly Guthrie), Potowmack's Speech Language Pathologist. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and Master of Science degree in Communication Science and Disorders. I graduated from Florida State University (Go Seminoles!) with specialized knowledge and experience working with early intervention and school-aged children, and students with autism. I received my Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2014.  I’m excited about being back at Potowmack Elementary school, and I truly look forward to seeing some familiar and new faces throughout the year.

In my free time, you'll find me outside with my daughter, twins, husband, and dog Cooper (hiking, camping, backpacking, etc.), reading, taking pictures, doing house projects, or relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. My friends and family re-charge my batteries, you'll see their pictures all over my office :)

I know this year we're all starting out with a mix of excitement and anxiety about what this year holds, so reach out with whatever you may need. We will be doing many exciting lessons and projects that will engage students in their learning. I’m positive that we will all grow and learn this year. My goal is to motivate and encourage your children to be the best possible students and to help them grow in pursuit of their full potential. This challenge will only be met with the cooperation of ALL three parties — students, parents, and me.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
