Sharon Brown, M.S.
    Speech-Language Pathologist
I am happy to be back for my 11th year at Pinebrook! I am blessed to work with such an awesome and dedicated staff!

I live in the Shenandoah Valley with my husband, Tom, and yellow lab, Howie.  My son and his wife live in Greensboro, NC.  My daughter is attending grad school at Washington University in St Louis in the Occupational Therapy program.

In my spare time, I enjoy running (10k's and half marathons), reading, and gardening. I also love cheering for the University of Virginia football and basketball teams!  Go 'Hoos - National Basketball Champions!!!

I have a BS from the University of Virginia and an MS from Gallaudet University in Communication Sciences and Disorders. My work experience includes over 30 years in private practice and public schools in Maryland and Virginia. I have worked with all ages and types of speech issues, including fluency, autism, apraxia, language, articulation, cleft palate, and hearing impairment. I have training and experience with AAC devices.

I provide speech services both in a resource room and in the classroom for students with communication delays that impact their academic progress. In addition, I help with speech and hearing screenings for new students, and evaluate students for speech/language when they are referred through the Child Study Committee.

Although we work hard in speech therapy, I try to keep speech fun! I firmly believe that students have to first experience the joy that comes from communicating, before they will be comfortable enough to participate in the classroom environment.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about speech services.
