• Leigh Boyd It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to the Pinebrook community!  It is an honor to have been chosen as the new Assistant Principal for Pinebrook Elementary School.  I am looking forward to serving the community and working to help students grow academically and personally!  I plan to work closely with Mr. Thiessen, Mrs. Wilhelm, the Pinebrook staff, students, and the community to support Pinebrook’s goal of making today’s learners, tomorrow’s leaders.  It is a priority to continue working to provide Pinebrook’s students the greatest opportunity to access curriculum through personalized, authentic learning opportunities that integrate Problem Based Learning and STEAM to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, in preparation for their futures.

I come to Pinebrook after serving as an educator in Virginia for 10 years.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Findlay in 2007.  After several years of teaching, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration from George Mason University.  As an educator, I have always worked to foster a learning community that promoted the student’s ability to feel successful, safe, and respected by implementing authentic learning opportunities, various best practices to better meet the needs of my students, and staying current with the changes in education.  Furthermore, I believe that setting rigorous, but achievable expectations is vital in fostering growth and independence in students.  I value inclusive teaching practices and equal opportunities for all students!  I believe that technology should be used to enhance instruction and student learning regularly to better prepare them for the future.  Additionally, I value building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners.

Originally from upstate New York, I moved to Virginia with my husband upon completing my Bachelor’s Degree to obtain a teaching position and take advantage of the equestrian community in the area!  I enjoy riding and competing my horse as often as possible and when I am not at school or spending time with my husband, I can be found at the barn!

Again, I am beyond excited and honored to serve the community as the Assistant Principal of Pinebrook Elementary School! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that may arise throughout the year.  My door is always open and I welcome the opportunity to serve you and your child!
