       Music instruction at Mountain View is provided for all students in grades 1 through 5 during two 30-minute class sessions per week.  Instruction follows the Loudoun County Public Schools music curriculum, which is aligned with the Virginia SOL's for music and with the national music education standards as well.  Music class activities center around the following activities:  
          
      Singing:  developing the skill of singing in tune; singing songs for learning musical concepts; singing American songs and songs from other cultures and time periods.
    Playing instruments:  learning to play unpitched percussion instruments; learning to play pitched percussion (xylophones, etc.) instruments in ensembles; playing autoharps, ukuleles, Appalachian dulcimers; playing recorders (4th/5th grades).
    Reading:  reading rhythm values, reading solfege (do, re, mi, etc.) on the music staff, reading using letter names on the staff, reading symbols and terms.
    Listening:  listening to learn songs, listening to learn concepts, listening to analyze and evaluate music, listening to music of famous composers.
    Moving:  learning dances, playing movement games, dramatizing, moving creatively.
     
    Mountain View students participate in grade level musical performances and school-wide musical events.
