Inclement Weather Information
When the Loudoun County Public Schools experiences inclement weather conditions, the safety of our students and staff is the most important consideration.
How are school cancellations communicated?
In the event that weather or other reason require either closing or delaying the opening of school, announcements will be made over the radio and TV stations listed by 6:00 A.M.
Where can parents find information about school closings?
When conditions require school closings or early dismissal of students, announcements will be given to the following radio and TV stations:RADIO

What if bad weather arrives when children are in school?
If severe weather strikes while students are in school, a decision to close school for the remainder of the day may be made. .See two hour early closing information . Activating the transportation system due to inclement weather takes time. In the event of a delayed opening, please stay tuned to the radio/TV stations in case there is a change in the weather.Will all after-school activities for students be canceled if school is closed?
All after-school activities requiring school bus transportation are canceled. Other school activities not requiring transportation service are the the discretion of the school principal. Please check the district Web site, or your school’s Web site, for specific information.
What can parents do to help their students and schools prepare?- Contact your childcare facility, if necessary, to find out what their procedures are for inclement weather.
- Review the information you have listed as emergency contacts and make sure that the numbers are updated.
- Make plans ahead of time and communicate them with your children so they understand what to expect during an early school dismissal due to inclement weather.
- Understand that school closings are for the safety of children throughout the district. While the condition of your neighborhood streets may be fine, other areas of the district may be experiencing harsher weather.
A one-hour delay
All morning programs would operate as usual except that they would start one hour later.
A two-hour delay
School opening would be delayed for two hours with the following changes:(view changes)
One-hour early closing
All bus routes operate as usual except starting one hour earlier than the normal time. All after-school activities requiring school bus transportation are canceled. Other school activities not requiring transportation service are the discretion of the school principal. Adult Education classes are also canceled and instructors will inform students about make-up dates.
Two-hour early closing
All after-school activities requiring school bus transportation are canceled. Other school activities not requiring transportation service are the the discretion of the school principal. Adult Education classes are also canceled and instructors will inform students about make-up dates. Kindergarten,
STEP (4 year old)A.M. Session – will begin two hours late and remain in school for two hours. These students will leave school one hour later than usual.
P.M. Session– will begin one hour late and remain in school for two hours, dismissing at the regular time.ESL
Elementary School – students will go to their ESL school on a two-hour delayed schedule and will follow the kindergarten release procedures. Middle & High School – students will stay on their regular delayed opening schedule.
Full Day Special Education Programs
Students in these programs will arrive two hours late at the appropriate school and remain until the end of the normal school.
Head Start
Students in these programs will arrive at school on a two-hour delayed schedule and will dismiss at their regular dismissal time.
Early Childhood
(Pre-School)AM Session - Will begin two hours late and remain in school for three hours. These students will leave school one hour later than normal.
PM Session- Will begin one hour late and remain in school for three hours dismissing at the regular time.Monroe Technology Center
Student will arrive two hours late and remain until normal dismissal time.

AM Sessions - These students will remain at school until the time other students are dismissed. These students will ride their regular bus with the other special education students.

Students will be transported back to their home school two hours earlier than normal.
Activities and Athletics
All after-school activities requiring school bus transportation are canceled.
