As we embark on the 2019-2020 school year, I have energy and excitement as I begin my second year with the Lowes Island school community!  Over the past year, I have learned that our staff is committed to excellence and works hard to help each one of our leopards leap forward in their learning.  I am honored to be the Assistant Principal and will join forces with all stakeholders to ensure the success of our students.

As a life-long resident of Loudoun County and a graduate of Broad Run High School, I feel privileged to work for our excellent school system that prioritizes preparing our students for the 21st century by providing opportunities for deeper learning through authentic challenging problems.  The 2019-2020 school year marks my 20th year in education.  I earned my undergraduate degree from Radford University and began my career in Fairfax County teaching 3rd grade.  I then moved to Loudoun County Public Schools to teach Family Life Education (FLE) to fourth and fifth graders and soon completed my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from George Mason University.  I have 9 years of administrative experience and I value all of the learning opportunities that I have experienced.  As one of my former professors said, “Everyone learns, everyone teaches.”  I reside in Leesburg with my husband and two boys, Zach, who is attending college, and Jake, a senior in high school.  I also enjoy soccer, watching football and hockey, spending time with my family and friends, traveling, the outdoors, and music.

As we all come together from various parts of the world, we should recognize and appreciate the differences in others, and understand that each one of us is just as important as the next.  I believe in the mindset that perseverance is critical to success.  Our leopards will learn that making mistakes and taking risks only makes them stronger and empowers them to achieve greatness.  I truly look forward to working with the students, families, and staff of Lowes Island Elementary as we create a school culture filled with respect and strong, trusting relationships.   I have a passion for educating and working with young children, and strongly believe that ALL students can and will succeed!  I am your partner in your child’s education, and please do not ever hesitate to contact me.  Thank you for allowing me to serve you and your families.

It's always a great day at Lowes Island Elementary!

    Warmly,

    Diane “Dee Dee” Herndon-Wilson
