Welcome to First Grade!
My name is Mrs.Sborz (sounds like Spores), and I am very excited to be returning to Loudoun County Public Schools, and becoming part of the Lincoln Elementary Family. I am so excited to be your child’s teacher, and I can’t wait for a year full of learning, fun, and growing together.
I have my Bachelors Degree from Radford University, and my Masters in Reading from Shenandoah University. This school year will be my 17th year teaching. I started my elementary career in Loudoun County at Horizon Elementary, teaching 1st and 2nd grades. The past four years I have been teaching Kindergarten at Redbud Run Elementary, in Frederick County, VA.
I am married to my husband Nick, who spends a lot of time on the baseball field coaching. We are very blessed to be parents to our 8 year old daughter, Payton and our 6 year old twin boys, Hunter and Wyatt. We also have a spunky pup who is a golden-lab mix, Phillie.
I love running, and last October I completed my second half-marathon. I enjoy browsing the aisles of Target, a Latte from Starbucks, reading a good book, going to the beach, chocolate chip cookies, and most importantly spending time with my family.
First grade is a challenging, and important year for students. They will learn many of the fundamental skills that will guide their future education. I strive to have an interactive, hands-on learning community that is mindful of each child’s individual needs. It is my goal to develop instruction that facilitates the academic, social, and emotional growth of each student.
First grade is also packed with TONS of wonderful things to learn. We will explore
new vocabulary words, build phonological awareness skills, and become great readers. In fact, your children will be reading LOTS of books this year, and they’ll get to bring many of them home so they can read to your family each night. We will also become authors and illustrators during our writing workshop. Along the way, we will become scientists and explorers and learn about plants and animals, uncover the mystery of matter, discover what makes objects move, read maps, learn about famous Americans, plus SO much more. We will be working on the computer, and playing a lot of fun games too!
I am looking forward to meeting you and your child, and I can’t wait to begin our journey through First Grade together.
Love, Mrs. Sborz
