Mrs. Shipman grew up in Rutland, Massachusetts, which is about 50 miles west of Boston.She graduated from Immaculata University in 2001 with a Bachelor's in Music Therapy.After graduating college, Mrs. Shipman began her career working with Special Needs children and adolescents. She has previously worked for The Devereux Foundation, as both a Recreation Director and then teacher, and later for The May Institute, as an ABA Therapist, both located in Massachusetts.She moved to Virginia in 2006 and began teaching for Fairfax County Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher. During this time, she finalized her Professional Teaching License as well as began working towards her Master's in Special Education.Mrs. Shipman currently lives in Broadlands with her husband, 13 year old stepson, 6 year old daughter, and Ernie - the cat.The 2015 - 2016 school year is her fifth year teaching at Horizon Elementary.
