Welcome to Fourth GradeI am so excited for my second year at FHR! This is my fourth year teaching 4th grade, the two previous years I taught in Fairfax County. My favorite subject to teach is Virginia Studies. I have lived in Virginia my whole life and enjoy learning and teaching about my home state’s history. I received my Bachelor's degree from James Madison University and received a Master's degree in Elementary Education from George Mason University. I can't wait to spend the year learning and growing with my 4th graders!
I am very excited to continue my dream career and join the FHR family. Prior to coming to Loudon County and FHR, I was a special education teacher in Fairfax County where I was a co-teacher in 4th and 5th grade classrroms. Before this I was an instructional assistant, focusing on reading intervention in a middle school in Maryland and an elementary school in Hawai'i. I live in Adamstown Maryland with my beautiful wife and my youngest daughter who will be entering 10th grade this school year. I have 4 other adult children who live in Maryland and Virginia. When I am not following my passion of teaching children, I enjoy various outdoor activities with my family and friends to include hiking, camping and kayaking. To me, there is nothing like spending a day outdoors in the fresh air. I am looking forward to a great school year and helping my students reach their fullest potential during their 4th grade. Welcome to all of my "Hoffman Heroes"!I absolutely love teaching 4th grade -- it is my favorite age to teach! I have taught for many years in both Stafford and Loudoun counties working with 4th and 5th graders. I am a Bridgewater College graduate and live in Leesburg with my husband and 2 young daughters. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family to the mountains of WV, the FL beaches, or to my husband’s hometown of Pittsburgh. I enjoy being an FHR Raven!
Ms. DeBoard is thrilled to be joining the FHR team! She grew up in Loudoun County and is honored to begin her teaching career with LCPS. Although she has worked with children for many years in different capacities, she decided to pursue teaching after an amazing experience co-teaching a pre-kindergarten class in 2017. Ms. DeBoard earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (Elementary Education) from Liberty University and truly enjoyed completing her Student Teaching placement in Mrs. McDonough’s 4th grade classroom at FHR.
When she is not in the classroom, she enjoys hiking, traveling (her favorite destinations so far have been Iceland and Zion National Park in Utah) and photography. She is looking forward to a great school year!I am very excited to be returning to FHR again this year! It is such a fabulous place to teach, learn, and build relationships. I taught for fifteen years in Fairfax County Public Schools before joining the LCPS school system. Prior to teaching, I was a stay-at-home mom for my four children for twenty years. My first career was as a computer programmer. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Mary Washington College with a double major in math and economics. My elementary licensure requirements were earned in a masters program at George Mason University. I am currently working on a Masters in American History through the Gilder Lehrman Institute. I was proud to be named by the Gilder Lehrman Institute and the VDOE as the 2015 History Teacher of the Year for the state of Virginia. My role model is Miss Frizzle from the Magic School Bus because she provides authentic learning experiences for her students. I hope to bring the joy of learning to your student as we enjoy fourth grade together this year.
