Music instruction at Forest Grove Elementary is provided for all students in grades K through 5. We will spend 30 minutes twice a week with Kindergarten and 50 minutes with grades 1-5 once a week. It is Mr. Sheppard's first year at Forest Grove and first year in Loudoun. Mr. Sheppard will be teaching grades 1-4 this year. It is Mr. Campayno's sixth year at Forest Grove, and has been with Loudoun County for twenty years. Mr. Campayno will be teaching grades K and 5 this year.
In music class, musical elements are taught through singing, listening, playing instruments, and moving. The use and development of the singing voice is a vital component of the music program. Some of the musical elements the students will learn are; rhythm, melody, harmony, form, tone color, and expression. Students will also learn about music history and multicultural music.Throughout the year, students will learn about numerous instruments. Each month, there will also be an instrument of the month where students will get a more in-depth understanding of an instrument. 4th and 5th Graders will learn the recorder later in the year. Students in 4th and 5th grades are asked to purchase their own recorders. 4th and 5th graders will also participate in the Singing Falcon Chorus.
