Dominion Trail ElementarySchool Counseling ProgramWhat is School Counseling?School Counseling is focused on prevention and childhood development. A School Counselor encourages successful academic, career, and personal/social development to ensure that every child succeeds. This is accomplished through classroom guidance, group, and individual counseling. Counselors work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators. School counseling services are inclusive and respectful of student and staff differences in gender, religion, ethnicity, race, ability, handicapping, condition and age.
The Dominion Trail School Counseling Program is designed to help children:
- Become self-directive and responsible for their behavior in relation to academic achievement
- Understand the character traits consistent with Loudoun County Public Schools' Character Education program
- Develop decision-making, conflict resolution, and coping skills
- Understand the relationship between personal qualitites, education and the world of work
- Feel good about themselves
- Make school a successful experience
- Communicate effectively
- Develop positive relationships with peers and adults
- Cope with stress, life changes and crises
- Plan for further education
Counselors help parents:
- Understand how to help their child achieve his or her academic, social, and emotional potential
- Enhance the relationship with their child's school
- Gain access to services for children
