•    My teaching position at Cool Spring began in September, 2009 when Mrs. Broaddus hired me to be a reading specialist. At that time I was new to Loudoun County having recently moved from Maryland to West Virginia. We wanted to be close to our daughter and her family who were relocating from Clifton to Leesburg. In addition my husband loved the Blue Ridge Mountains and it was his dream to retire along the Shenandoah River.

I completed my undergraduate and much of my graduate work at the University of Maryland. My career spans four decades, although I have had some breaks throughout that time. I began as a kindergarten teacher but have worked as a pre-k, first grade, and Reading Recovery teacher. I started working as a reading specialist in the early 1990s and my focus was kindergarten through 6thgrade.

In addition to teaching my loves include family, friends, my two adopted dogs and cat, gardening, reading, traveling and shopping – just to name a few. It is my very strong belief that because all children have gifts education should be equal and inclusive…that all children are entitled to a challenging curriculum through hands-on experiences infused with higher level learning and thinking activities. Proficiency in reading can help to bring it all together.

I love my position at Cool Spring and each day give thanks for the opportunity to work here. If you have any questions you may contact me at carolee.botts@lcps.org.
